About the Company/Role
Our client is an Australian research and development company applying AI alongside clinical and scientific expertise to improve how outcomes are measured and trusted in clinical trials. They are now looking for a Software Engineer to join as their first engineer, taking significant ownership of how software products are designed, built and deployed. The role would suit a self-directed Software Engineer who enjoys working in an early-stage environment, is enthusiastic about AI-assisted development, and wants the opportunity to shape both technical architecture and product direction.
Responsibilities include:
- Build, test, document and maintain internal and customer-facing web applications
- Develop and maintain automated pipelines to ingest, clean and process complex clinical trial data
- Review, test and debug AI-generated Python and JavaScript code to ensure reliability, performance and data integrity
- Transition local software prototypes into secure, scalable and user-friendly cloud applications
- Build configuration tools used by implementation teams to set up and validate clinical studies
- Help define technical requirements and influence product direction
- Select appropriate client-side frameworks based on the business and product problem
- Develop reusable application components across multiple web applications
- Support integrations with eClinical platforms, EDC systems and relational databases
- Ensure clinical data is handled securely, with appropriate consideration for privacy and encryption
- Apply software engineering best practices across automated testing, version control and CI/CD
- Work closely with the broader team to turn evolving business and research requirements into practical software solutions
Skills & Experience
- Experience developing web applications using Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, or strong equivalent experience across another modern technology stack
- Experience with modern frontend technologies such as React, Angular or Vue
- Familiarity deploying applications using modern cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Render, Vercel or Docker
- Experience with clinical trials, eClinical systems, CTMS, EDC platforms such as Medidata Rave or Veeva, EMR software, clinical data privacy, or microservices would be beneficial.
- Experience with automated testing, including unit and integration testing
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code rather than simply relying on its output
- Comfortable working independently in an early-stage business where requirements and established processes may not always exist
- Willingness to take ownership of product and technical decisions
