About this Role

What you’ll do

• Design, develop and maintain high-quality, well-tested back-end services and RESTful APIs using Python and Django.
• Write clean, maintainable and efficient code aligned with technical designs and business requirements.
• Build and maintain microservices, including integrations with databases, search and logging infrastructure, internal systems and third-party services.
• Contribute to the gradual decomposition and re-platforming of monolithic applications in line with established microservices architecture.
• Partner with front-end engineers to define and integrate API contracts.
• Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to support successful and timely delivery.
• Contribute across planning, solution design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Perform peer code reviews and participate in debugging and troubleshooting.
• Improve back-end performance through caching, query optimisation and efficient data-access techniques.
• Apply engineering practices including version control, code review and continuous integration.
• Translate business requirements into secure, scalable and performant back-end designs.
• Identify technical risks within service designs and recommend appropriate mitigations.
• Evaluate relevant tools, frameworks and technologies and contribute to decisions about the team's technology stack.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation covering code, APIs, services, operating procedures and architecture.
• Support onboarding through knowledge-transfer sessions and technical documentation.
• Provide technical support, mentoring and guidance to colleagues across different experience levels.
• Contribute to relevant team, department and company initiatives, including technical investigations, analysis, process documentation and knowledge transfer.

Who you are

• You have 5+ years of back-end development experience, with a strong focus on Python and Django.
• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• You have strong proficiency in Python and Django.
• You have practical experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• You have experience working with relational databases and SQL.
• You understand microservices architecture, distributed systems, design patterns and integration patterns, with practical experience contributing to monolith-to-microservices migration.
• You are comfortable using version control systems and build tools.
• You understand Agile/Scrum ways of working and can collaborate effectively within a fast-paced engineering environment.
• You demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• You can explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• You actively develop and share your technical expertise.
