WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Tealium is expanding its Data Platform engineering team with a Software Engineer who will help design and implement scalable, high-performance data services that store, process, and securely retire large volumes of customer data. This role contributes to the foundation of Tealium's Universal Data Hub (UDH), supporting reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient data lifecycle management for all event data flowing through the system. The ideal candidate loves building distributed data systems, is eager to grow their architecture and system-design skills, and cares about data quality, privacy, and governance. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers and other product and platform teams to turn large-scale datasets into trustworthy assets that power analytics, personalization, and automation in real time. The team is actively building AI-powered capabilities on top of the platform - including LLM-driven data services and tooling exposed to AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) - so curiosity about applied AI is a big plus.

Team Teal Tech Stack:

AWS services: EC2, ECS, S3, EKS, EMR, Lambdas, MSK, Kinesis, Cloud Watch

DBs: Dynamo, Redshift, Postgres, Mongo, MySQL

Data Platforms and Processing: Spark, DataBricks

Languages: Java, Python, Scala

Frameworks: Quarkus, PySpark, Hazelcast

QA tools: Playwright, Allure

Services: Jenkins, Datadog, Sumologic, Jfrog, Testrail

Build: Maven, Gradle

AI / GenAI: LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP)

YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • Partner closely with software engineers, architects, DevOps, and Product Managers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable applications using modern frameworks.
  • Actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, contributing to planning, estimation, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to architectural design discussions, test planning, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Participate in peer code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Learn and apply new technologies and design approaches to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.

WHAT YOU BRING TO TEALIUM

  • 3+ years of Java/Python/Scala development experience using modern frameworks.
  • Solid knowledge of modern software engineering principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL and/or relational databases, such as DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redshift, Redis, Cassandra, etc.
  • Experience deploying software on cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to teammates, and a genuine desire to learn new technologies.

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on experience building data processing pipelines, ideally with Apache Spark (AWS/Databricks).
  • Exposure to high-traffic, highly available systems.
  • Exposure to distributed messaging and streaming technologies: RabbitMQ, Kinesis, Kafka.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps concepts: Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless, Terraform.
  • Experience with or strong interest in applied AI/GenAI: working with LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, or building agent tooling, including approaches like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for connecting agents to data and tools.
