Your future, as a Software Engineer (Automation and AI) at mydentist

The Software Engineer (Automation and AI) designs, builds and supports software and automation that improve how the Support Centre works. Reporting to the Product Manager for Support Centre, with a dotted line to the Engineering Manager, you'll turn prioritised problems into working solutions. It's a hands-on engineering role. You'll build internal tools and portals, automate repetitive processes with RPA and the Power Platform, and apply agentic workflows where they beat a script. It suits a mid-level engineer who wants to build practical AI capability on solid foundations.

  • The role is permanent and full time
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • You will benefit from free onsite parking and Kearsley train station is just a short walk away
  • With an onsite mini market shop and casual seating space inside and outside (for the sunnier days)

Your future, your role

As a Software Engineer (Automation and AI), you’ll be:

  • Build and maintain internal tools, portals and integrations in C#/.NET and the Power Platform that help Support Centre colleagues work faster.
  • Automate repetitive support processes with RPA and API-led approaches, choosing the simplest reliable option for each case.
  • Build agentic workflows using LLMs, tool use and human-in-the-loop checks, starting with well-bounded use cases and agreed guardrails.
  • Write clean, testable, well-documented code, and take part in code review as both author and reviewer.
  • Take solutions from prototype to production, including deployment, monitoring and support, and check they deliver the benefit expected.
  • Integrate with HCM, ERP and back-oAice systems through APIs, using RPA only where no reliable interface exists.
  • Document process gaps, data quality issues and poorly integrated systems, and help prioritise fixing them before automating around them.
  • Follow and contribute to engineering standards set with the Engineering Manager: source control, environments, testing, CI/CD and documentation.
  • Apply good security and data protection practice, particularly for bots credentials and patient or customer data.
  • Work directly with support centre teams to understand a process before automating it, and to test solutions with the people who will use them.
  • Work with the Product Manager to shape backlog items, estimate eAort and agree what good looks like.
  • Translate operational problems into technical requirements, and explain technical constraints back in plain language.
  • Support user testing, rollout and hypercare, and write short guides that give colleagues confidence in what you've built.

Skills and Experience

  • Five years' plus professional software engineering experience, including delivering business applications, integrations or automation in a live environment.
  • Strong C#/.NET skills, sound engineering fundamentals, and confident use of Git and CI/CD.
  • Hands-on experience building automation with RPA tools (such as UiPath or Power Automate) or the Power Platform, including knowing when not to use them.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs and integrating business systems, with working knowledge of SQL and relational data.
  • Practical experience using LLMs through model APIs, including prompting and tool calling, whether professionally or through substantial projects.
  • Experience deploying and supporting software in a cloud environment (Azure preferred).
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to ask direct questions of non-technical colleagues.

Enjoy being part of a team that’s passionate about supporting our practices and ultimately heling the nation smile.
