About CompSci

CompSci LLC is a hybrid onshore/nearshore technology services firm with about 100 people working across roughly 22 active client engagements. Our engineers embed with client teams in healthcare, education, insurance, and SaaS, building new products and modernizing the systems those businesses run on.

We treat AI-assisted and agentic development as a core part of how we deliver, not an experiment. Engineers here work with defined standards, automated quality gates, and modern pipelines.

The role

We're hiring a full-stack software engineer who is productive across several stacks: .NET/C#, Java, Python, React, and relational databases. You'll be placed on a client engagement and may move between engagements over time, so range matters as much as depth.

Some projects are greenfield. Others are long-lived platforms on older frameworks, including .NET Framework 4.x and ASP.NET Web Forms, that need careful modernization. We want someone equally comfortable in both.

  • Type: Full-time, W-2 with standard benefits

  • Location: Remote; US or nearshore (Latin America)

  • Hours: Substantial overlap with US Central Time

  • English: Professional fluency, spoken and written; you'll work directly with US clients

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services in C#/.NET, Java, and Python, and front ends in React with TypeScript.

  • Model data, write efficient SQL, and tune queries and schemas for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

  • Modernize legacy applications incrementally, keeping production stable while moving to current frameworks.

  • Build and consume REST APIs and integrations with third-party and partner systems.

  • Use AI coding tools and agents within our team standards, and review their output with the same rigor as human code.

  • Write unit and integration tests, and keep CI/CD pipelines green.

  • Deploy to and troubleshoot cloud environments, primarily AWS, with some Azure.

  • Work directly with client stakeholders: clarify requirements, estimate work, and explain trade-offs in plain language.

  • Review peers' code and mentor less experienced engineers.

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development, shipping production code.

  • .NET/C#: Production experience with modern .NET (6 or later), plus working familiarity with .NET Framework.

  • Java: Production experience, ideally with Spring or Spring Boot.

  • Python: Comfortable writing services, scripts, and data tooling.

  • React: Strong React with TypeScript, including state management and component design.

  • Databases: Solid SQL and relational design, with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL in production.

  • Hands-on use of AI coding assistants in daily work, with a clear view of where they help and where they fail.

  • Automated testing (for example xUnit, JUnit, pytest, Jest) and Git-based CI/CD workflows.

  • Clear communication in English with technical and non-technical people.

We don't expect equal depth in every language. We do expect you to be productive in all of them and expert in at least two.

Nice to have

  • Legacy migrations, such as Web Forms or WCF to ASP.NET Core, or a monolith to services.

  • Next.js, Node.js, or NestJS.

  • AWS infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform), plus Docker.

  • NoSQL or caching layers such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Redis.

  • Regulated domains: healthcare (HIPAA, EHR), education, or insurance.

  • Experience building with LLM APIs, agent frameworks, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

  • Technical leadership: leading a small team, running design reviews, or interviewing engineers.

  • Code quality and security tooling such as SonarQube or SAST scanners.

What we offer

  • Your choice of full-time W-2 employment with standard benefits or a 1099 contract arrangement.

  • Compensation set by experience and geographic region.

  • Real variety: different clients, domains, and stacks, with room to move between engagements.

  • An engineering culture that takes AI-assisted development seriously and gives you the standards and tooling to do it well.

  • A path into technical leadership for engineers who want it.

How to apply

Send your resume and a short note on one project you're proud of: what you built, the stack, and the measurable result. Be ready to go deep on anything on your resume. Our technical interview asks you to explain your own work in detail.
