About the Role This role focuses on building performant, maintainable systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful features that meet business and customer needs. You'll lead development of Pelico's ETL backend in Java, owning scalability and performance for the systems that turn complex, high-volume manufacturing data into a single live operational picture. Your mission Design, develop, and optimize Pelico's ETL backend components in Java, building scalable and efficient solutions for complex data processing Architect scalable, modular services while ensuring data integrity, security, and availability across distributed environments Integrate third-party services and APIs to extend platform capabilities, and collaborate with DevOps to optimize CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies Develop solutions for large-scale data ingestion, processing, and analysis, optimizing relational database interactions and distributed data systems Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions, leading by example on Java best practices Write clean, maintainable, testable code and drive unit, integration, and performance testing to guarantee system stability What we're looking for Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin (backend), with experience in relational databases and API development Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts and performance optimization techniques Strong grasp of software design principles (SOLID, separation of concerns, DRY) and design patterns, with the ability to write maintainable, testable code Experience with automated testing and CI/CD, and the ability to define and document technical specifications, balancing feature development with technical debt Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to design robust, scalable solutions and identify and mitigate risk You actively embrace AI tools as part of how you work — curious about what's possible and quick to adopt new ways of working smarter and faster. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted workflows — whether for writing, research, analysis, coding, or productivity — and a genuine interest in staying at the frontier of what these tools can do.
