We're building co-pilot for logistics

Vooma's mission is to dramatically improve the efficiency of the $800B trucking industry. Everything we touch in the physical world is moved on a truck - it's the backbone of the US economy. Yet logistics today is still extremely manual. At Vooma, you'll help us to build the co-pilot for logistics and automate everything but driving the truck.

The first product you'll build helps freight brokers and trucking companies automate order taking from shippers. It's hard to believe that ~50% of freight orders are still transmitted over email and keyed into systems manually, costing billions in lost productivity. With Vooma, users simply forward the email to our service and the load is built automatically in seconds. Order entry is just the beginning - the perfect wedge for us to solve many other thorny operational problems in logistics.

Vooma is founded by Jesse Buckingham and Mike Carter. Mike built self driving trucks as a founding engineer at Kodiak Robotics (raised $250M) where he established and led their motion planning and safety teams. Jesse was previously CEO at a private equity backed logistics software company that sold to brokers and truckers which he grew from $2M to $20M+ ARR.

About our tech

The development of large language models have created a unique period in history where many things that were previously not possible are now possible. Every industry, including logistics, will be transformed by this generation of AI.

At Vooma, you'll harness the power of LLMs to transform the way freight is shipped. You'll work with us to combine the latest technologies in computer vision and natural language processing to build stunning products and experiences for logistics professionals that weren't previously possible.

The stack you'll work in will include Next.js, GraphQL, and AWS cloud infrastructure. You'll code primarily in Python and TypeScript.

About the role

We're looking for someone who can solve problems and drive progress across our entire software stack. On a typical day, you might find yourself designing and running experiments to improve AI performance, deploying new cloud infrastructure to better scale the product, or developing a new frontend component to improve the user experience.

At Vooma, you will:

• Push the envelope of what's possible with the latest and greatest in ML. Be one of the first to harness the power of large language models to delight customers and contribute to an industry that touches all of our lives.

• Design and implement user experiences that leverage the power of the latest AI.

• Build automation pipelines, along with the data and processing infrastructure to scale with our customers.

• Work with customers across logistics to understand their needs and design the tools that enable the workflows of the future.

About you

You're a talented developer with an appetite for working at a startup. You're fluent in Python or TypeScript and have experience writing and shipping code in a production environment. Above all, you're eager to wear multiple hats, lead new initiatives, learn new technologies, and get it done; whatever it is.

You've done one or more of the following:

• Helped build and scale a web-based product.

• Designed, iterated, and scaled web-based user experiences.

• Contributed to UI and product design cycles.

• Worked extensively with Large Language Models.

• Deployed an ML product or feature in the wild.

You count one or more of the following among your strengths:

• Cloud infrastructure platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP. Infrastructure as Code experience is an asset.

• Frontend frameworks: Next.js, React, Tailwind.

• Backend development: GraphQL, TypeORM, PostgreSQL.

• Building products with deep neural networks, including data and training infrastructure.
