Job Description Summary:
ModMed's Product Development team eagerly welcomes interns who are passionate about pursuing a career in Software Engineering. We are a dynamic team of experts in Java, .Net, Mobile (iOS), and AI/ML Engineering, guided by the principles in AI Forward Software Development Lifecycle. Our software operates seamlessly within the Amazon Web Services cloud environment.
Here, you'll engage in meaningful, real-world projects that leave a lasting impact. ModMed Interns have the opportunity to transform their ideas and enthusiasm into tangible accomplishments. You'll cultivate essential skills and gain hands-on experience while collaborating with some of the industry's most exceptional talents. Our dedicated team of engineers and architects will mentor and challenge you every step of the way.
Your Role:
- Tackle Complex Challenges: Engage with and solve intricate problems, pushing the boundaries of your skills and knowledge.
- Contribute Across the Tech Spectrum: Be an integral part of our engineering projects, making contributions to the frontend, backend, and/or mobile development efforts.
- Witness Your Impact: Experience the gratification of seeing your code come to life, as it's deployed and utilized by both internal and external customers.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Join forces with cross-functional teams to provide comprehensive system support, gaining valuable exposure to various aspects of our operations.
Ideal Candidate Criteria for Summer 2027:
- Educational Background: You are currently enrolled in a Computer Science program (or a related field) or pursuing your Masters or PhD in Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence.
- Availability: Ability to work at our headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida, on a hybrid basis during the internship and willingness to commit to relocation post-graduation.
- Academic Excellence: You maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have experience with Microservices, Java, MySQL, and Angular. Strong preference for candidates with experience in streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka), containerization, caching, Web sockets, and AWS.
- Passion for AI Development Lifecycle: You're a champion of AI Forward Deployment and have experience with Claude, Codex, Cursor, or similar AI development tools.
- Curiosity and Problem-Solving Skills: You approach challenges with curiosity and are skilled at finding solutions.
- Self-Motivated & Adaptable: You're a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
Teams Hiring Interns:
Interns will have the opportunity to join specialized groups across Product Development. To help you make an educated decision on where you'd like to make an impact, here is a breakdown of our teams:
Architecture & Platform Engineering
- Team Function: Documenting proposed architectural designs, maintaining technical best practices, and building scalable cloud infrastructure to empower development teams.
- Potential Projects: Adding features to the Canopy platform for custom YAML infrastructure management, driving toil reduction through automation, and handling infrastructure migrations.
- Tech Stack: AWS, Java, Python, and scripting (Bash/PowerShell).
- Must-Haves: Familiarity with cloud computing, networking principles, and infrastructure as code (IaC) concepts. Nice-to-haves include Golang, Terraform, and EKS.
Software Engineering (EMA, GI & Patient Engagement)
- Team Function: Building cloud-native services, APIs, and modern patient experiences (scheduling, messaging) using AI-assisted workflows as standard practice.
- Potential Projects: Integrating AWS managed services (ElastiCache, OpenSearch, API Gateway), developing AI-powered healthcare agent automations, and implementing end-to-end CI/CD regression test suites.
- Tech Stack: Java, C#/.NET, React/modern front-end frameworks, Docker, Databricks, and AI coding assistants.
- Must-Haves: Distributed systems fundamentals (REST APIs, pub/sub, caching), Git PR-based workflows, and a strong builder mindset for agentic development and prompt engineering.
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
- Team Function: Maintaining the stability and performance of large, complex systems across the ModMed portfolio.
- Potential Projects: Enhancing continuous operations, SLAs, observability, cost management, and automation for PCI compliance.
- Tech Stack & Must-Haves: Basic knowledge of AWS, foundational programming experience, and a collaborative approach to improving infrastructure operations.
Data & Analytics Engineering
- Team Function: Modernizing foundational data platforms and enhancing data product offerings.
- Potential Projects: Building scalable data pipelines and modernizing the core data architecture.
- Tech Stack & Must-Haves: SQL, Python, and a strong grasp of data engineering basics.
