We build Frontstage, TomTom's developer portal based on Backstage, and Watchtower, the service that collects data behind it. Together they help engineering teams see what software they own and how it is doing, for example on security, quality and cost.
What you'll do:
Join a friendly team of engineers and pick up a project of your own, with a mentor to guide you
Help build new pages and scorecards in Frontstage using TypeScript and React
Help extend Watchtower, our TypeScript and PostgreSQL backend, with new data sources and APIs
Work on features that matter to our users, for example showing teams what their services cost on our Kubernetes platform
Help keep Frontstage up to date with new Backstage releases
Participate in the full cycle: understanding what users need, designing a solution, building, testing and releasing it
Build iteratively using agile methodologies, with your code reviewed by the team
What you'll need:
Being enrolled in a Dutch university until at least September 2027, so the entire duration of the internship
Being located in Amsterdam or cities close by to be able to commute to the office at least twice a week
Available for at least 32h/week
Good TypeScript or JavaScript skills
Some experience building web applications, for example with React or Node.js
Basic knowledge of SQL and databases
Nice to have: experience with Backstage, Docker, GitHub Actions or a cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP)
Solid Computer Science fundamentals
Comfortable with written and/or verbal communication in English
Interest in building tools that make other engineers' lives easier, and eager to learn
