Software Engineers, Mobile

Code is core at Shopify. As a Mobile Software Engineer, you'll craft the innovative and scalable code that powers commerce across the globe. Your mission: build extendable products that enhance every layer of the commerce stack—from exceptional buying experiences to groundbreaking financial products and dynamic developer tools. Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a significant part of Shopify's native mobile apps — shaping technical direction and architecture, and shipping complex, high-craft iOS and Android features yourself, not just directing from a distance.

• Stay at the frontier of applying AI to mobile development, leveraging swarms of agents to build complex features at a fast pace without compromising on quality, and teach others how to do the same.

• Make the engineers around you better through code review, pairing, and leading by example.

• Take on big, ambiguous problems: build major features and shape the architecture and direction of Shopify's mobile apps.

• Work closely with stakeholders across and beyond engineering, including product, design, and support.

• Help find and evaluate great engineers to grow the team.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and operating production native mobile applications at the scale of millions of users around the world.

• Strong command of Swift and SwiftUI, or Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

• Demonstrated ability to review, debug, and guide work across both platforms, even if one is the primary area of expertise.

• Experience designing maintainable mobile architecture across state, effects, dependencies, navigation, persistence, and platform lifecycles.

• Strong judgment around concurrency and cancellation, including Swift structured concurrency or Kotlin coroutines and Flow.

• Experience designing mobile APIs on GraphQL and data layers, including caching, pagination, mutation consistency, refresh, offline behavior, and typed failures.

• Experience building accessible, localized interfaces that perform well across devices, screen sizes, and real-world network conditions.

• A testing approach that covers logic, asynchronous behavior, user journeys, device behavior, and production readiness.

• Experience defining useful analytics, logs, errors, metrics, and traces, then connecting them to alerts and operational playbooks.

• Experience shipping through app-store release pipelines with staged rollout, feature controls, rollback planning, and incident response.

• A record of leading ambiguous, multi-quarter technical work from problem definition through production operation.
