Software QA Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a Software QA Engineer to join the team responsible for one of X-Rite's strategically important desktop software products. This product plays a critical role in our customers' workflows and has a large installed base worldwide.

The primary focus of this role is validating product quality through manual testing, exploratory testing, and systematic regression testing. The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, product managers, application support teams, and fellow QA engineers to ensure the reliability, usability, and stability of the product.

This position is ideal for a quality-focused professional who enjoys understanding complex software systems, investigating defects, and representing the voice of the customer throughout the development process.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute functional, integration, system, and regression testing for a business-critical Windows desktop application.
• Design, maintain, and execute detailed test plans and test cases.
• Perform exploratory testing to identify defects and quality risks not covered by scripted test cases.
• Validate new features, bug fixes, and software releases.
• Reproduce, isolate, document, and verify software defects.
• Work closely with developers to investigate issues and validate resolutions.
• Participate in requirements reviews and sprint planning activities to help identify quality risks early.
• Verify software behavior across different configurations, workflows, and usage scenarios.
• Collaborate with Application Support teams to reproduce customer-reported issues.
• Assist in maintaining test documentation, test procedures, and quality records.
• Contribute to release readiness assessments and product quality evaluations.

Required Qualifications & Professional Knowledge

• 3+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance.
• Experience testing Windows desktop applications.
• Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies and best practices.
• Experience creating and executing detailed test cases and test plans.
• Experience performing exploratory, functional, integration, and regression testing.
• Ability to investigate, reproduce, and clearly document software defects.
• Experience using defect tracking and test management systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and a structured approach to testing.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within globally distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing commercial software products.
• Experience validating complex user workflows and business processes.
• Experience participating in release testing and software certification activities.
• Experience working closely with software development teams.
• Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar defect management tools.
• Experience working in geographically distributed engineering organizations.
• Familiarity with test case management solutions like QATouch.

Nice to Have

• Experience testing Windows desktop applications
• Basic understanding of software development concepts and software architecture.
• Exposure to test automation tools and automated testing concepts.
• Experience testing applications that interact with hardware devices.
• Experience with installation and upgrade testing.
• Familiarity with installer technologies such as MSI, WiX, or InstallShield.
• Familiarity with Agile software development processes.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software quality assurance experience.
• Experience testing commercial software products in a professional environment.
