ABOUT THE ROLE

Commonpoint is seeking a Part-Time Specialist, Data & Insights to support data management, analysis, and reporting across the agency’s postsecondary programs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Impact & Learning, the Specialist will work closely with the Impact & Learning Division and postsecondary teams to strengthen the quality and use of student data.


The role will initially focus on cleaning and strengthening existing data systems, including reconciling student records across internal databases, National Student Clearinghouse data, CUNY data-sharing files, and other sources. Over time, the Specialist will support ongoing data analysis, semester reporting, surveys, and benchmarking to help Commonpoint better understand student persistence, completion, and longer-term outcomes.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Postsecondary Data & Systems

● Review, clean, organize, and maintain data across Commonpoint’s postsecondary programs.

● Reconcile student records across internal systems, National Student Clearinghouse data, CUNY data-sharing files, and other available sources.

● Use Clearinghouse data to help track student enrollment and persistence semester to semester.

● Develop and maintain spreadsheets and trackers that support accurate and consistent data collection.

● Conduct routine data quality checks to identify missing, duplicate, or inconsistent records.

● Identify missing student information and support research or student outreach, including LinkedIn research, when needed.

● Document data definitions, processes, and updates to support consistent data practices over time.


Analysis & Reporting

● Prepare and analyze postsecondary data for semester and annual reporting.

● Identify trends, outcomes, data gaps, and other findings that can support program improvement and decision-making.

● Develop clear summaries, charts, dashboards, and other materials that make data understandable and useful to program teams and leadership.

● Present key findings, data challenges, and recommendations to postsecondary and Impact & Learning leadership.

● Partner with postsecondary staff to address recurring data gaps and strengthen data collection and tracking practices.


Surveys & Benchmarking

● Support the Impact, Research & Evaluation team with the distribution and analysis of student and alumni outcome surveys.

● Partner with the Impact & Learning Assistant and program teams on outreach to strengthen survey response rates.

● Research relevant benchmarks and external data to help contextualize Commonpoint’s postsecondary outcomes.


Data Improvement & Program Support

● Partner with postsecondary teams to identify data gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities to strengthen data collection and tracking.

● Help develop and improve spreadsheets, trackers, and data collection tools to support more consistent program reporting.

● Translate data findings into practical recommendations and follow-up questions for program teams.

● Support special data projects that help the agency better understand student engagement, persistence, completion, and longer-term outcomes.


Team Collaboration

● Provide data entry, analysis, and synthesis support for additional departmental projects as needed.

● Participate in Impact & Learning meetings, supervision, and relevant postsecondary planning meetings.

● Collaborate with Impact & Learning and program staff across projects and priorities.

● Communicate professionally with staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders.

● Maintain confidentiality and appropriate data privacy practices when working with student information.


QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

● Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; Current undergraduate or graduate students, recent graduates, and candidates with relevant experience in data, research, education, or a related field are encouraged to apply.

● Experience working with spreadsheets, data, research, or program evaluation.

● Strong proficiency with Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel, including formulas, filtering, sorting, and pivot tables.

● Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing, inconsistent, or inaccurate information.

● Ability to analyze data and communicate findings clearly to different audiences.

● Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

● Ability to handle sensitive student information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

● Interest in postsecondary education, nonprofit programs, data, research, or evaluation preferred.


Position Details

This is a part-time, hybrid position working approximately 15–19 hours per week at $25.00 per hour. The position will include a combination of remote work and in-person responsibilities based on division and project needs, including occasional travel to Commonpoint sites. This is a temporary position from October to June 2026.
