About the role
Based in Nipaluna (Hobart), this is a rare opportunity to influence the long-term performance of Australia's largest hydropower scheme. You'll lead asset management strategies for a portfolio of critical primary electrical assets including generators, alternators, transformers, busbars and high-voltage switchgear that underpin Tasmania's renewable energy future. Working at the intersection of engineering excellence, asset risk and long-term investment planning, you'll help shape decisions that impact some of the country's most significant renewable energy infrastructure. This highly specialised role offers a unique blend of technical depth, strategic influence and the opportunity to leave a legacy on assets that will support generations to come.
Salary range $158,574 – $214,464 plus Super and Bonus

Key responsibilities
• Lead lifecycle asset management strategies for primary electrical assets.
• Provide specialist expertise on rotating electrical plant performance.
• Scope major upgrade and renewal projects.
• Develop long-
term asset plans aligned to business objectives.
• Identify asset risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Lead engineering standards development for operations and projects.
• Deliver technical innovation and asset optimisation initiatives.

Skills & experience
We're looking for a highly experienced electrical engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong commercial and asset management capability. You'll bring specialist knowledge of primary electrical generating assets and the ability to influence strategic asset decisions across a complex renewable energy portfolio.
What you'll bring
- Electrical Engineering qualifications eligible for membership with Engineers Australia
- Extensive experience managing utility size generators and rotating electrical plant in asset-intensive industries
- Strong asset management and lifecycle planning expertise
- Advanced knowledge of generators, transformers and high-voltage equipment
- Experience applying risk-based decision-making to complex engineering challenges
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence technical and business stakeholders
Highly regarded
- Experience in hydropower, power generation, utilities or renewable energy
- Knowledge of the National Electricity Rules
- Understanding of ISO 55001 asset management principles
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional recognition

You'll join Hydro Tasmania's Strategy, Asset Portfolio, Risk & Environment team, working alongside experienced engineering and asset management professionals who are responsible for the long-term performance and sustainability of Tasmania's renewable energy assets. You'll have significant autonomy while collaborating across operations, projects and executive stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes.
