Specialist Traffic Projects Engineer


Location: Five Dock

  • Maximum term position until June 2029
  • Leaseback or Car Allowance plus Civil Liability Allowance
  • $102,118 to $117,436 per annum plus super

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated traffic engineering professional to provide specialist technical expertise and strategic advice across traffic, transport, parking, road safety and development-related matters.


Working collaboratively with Council teams, TfNSW, stakeholders and the community, you will help develop innovative solutions to local traffic and transport challenges while ensuring initiatives align with broader regional network requirements.


A key focus of the role will be leading the planning and design of the Drummoyne Traffic Management Initiatives project, including consultation and stakeholder engagement.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise to meaningful projects that improve safety, connectivity and transport outcomes for the Canada Bay community.


Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Respond to community enquiries and deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste and processing time.
  • Prepare grant applications for traffic and transport infrastructure projects.
  • Review planning and development applications and provide engineering advice and conditions
  • Undertake traffic and transport planning assessments to support strategic, precinct, master and infrastructure planning.
  • Prepare consultancy briefs and tender documents, assess tenders and manage contracts.
  • Administer permit and pay parking schemes and support on- and off-street parking management.
  • Ensure infrastructure design and construction comply with relevant standards and legislation.


About the Person

To be successful in this position, ideally you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Traffic Engineering, with eligibility for Corporate Membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic traffic and transport planning.
  • Experience managing capital works projects and grant-funded initiatives.
  • Experience in traffic facility design and managing local traffic issues, including participation in the Local Transport Forum (LTF).
  • Extensive knowledge of Transport for NSW and Austroads guidelines, relevant Australian Standards, the NSW Roads Act and NSW Road Rules.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Sidra and other traffic modeling software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff and external consultants.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
