The Specialty Claims Internship program includes a combination of activities aimed at providing the intern a full understanding of the Claims department and how it interacts with other functions within the organization. The program is a potential pathway to a career in insurance. Internships typically consist of a 10-week period over the summer. We are accepting resumes for Specialty Claims Internship candidates starting employment in May through the Summer of 2027. We are hiring four interns that will work in one of the following areas: Reinsurance, Operations, or the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Responsibilities:

Within the Corporate Claims division, interns will work on meaningful assignments and gain exposure to a variety of claims functions, including claims handling, analysis, investigation, and negotiation. To gain a broader perspective of the business, interns will have the opportunity to meet with individuals who work in the other various functions within the group. Responsibilities will include:

  • Claims Operations: Working with the team to request medical canvases, work in the litigation database, set up new claims, and other operations team functions

  • Special Investigation Unit: Exposure to multiple claim functions, primarily working on Social Media Investigations and documentation

  • Reinsurance: Reinsurance reporting, analyzing reinsurance contracts, and other reinsurance responsibilities

  • Claim Resolution Services: Claim handling assignments and shadowing within the team including initial coverage analysis, first contact, investigation, and technical writing

  • Learn and perform functions utilizing the various claims systems, programs, and databases

  • Various reading assignments, self-study courses, case studies, and projects, on a diverse range of topics, providing a foundation of insurance knowledge and overall professional development

  • Participation in seminars and workshops, including Claims College and Great American University offerings, in addition to cohort based intern programming

Networking:

Specialty Claims interns will participate in activities with other interns, employees, and leaders throughout the organization. In addition to the on-the-job learning that takes place, interns also attend lunch-and-learns to further develop their business knowledge. The Specialty Claim Interns will also participate in the organization wide GAIG Summer Claim Intern Program, meeting regularly with claim interns across the divisions and lines of business

Qualifications:

  • 3.5 preferred GPA, with a 3.0 minimum GPA for consideration

  • Proven leadership skills through work experience (prior internship/co-ops a plus), campus involvement, and/or extracurricular activities

  • Strong communication, analytical, planning, and organizing skills

  • Self-motivated, as the nature of the internship requires independent work

  • Current student in a bachelor’s degree program in a wide range of majors, with Insurance & Risk Management students encouraged to apply
