Working at Moffitt is both a career and a mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

Join a dedicated team of nearly 11,000 who are shaping the future we envision. Moffitt has been recognized as a Best and Brightest Company to Work For in the Nation and is continually named one of the Tampa Bay Times’ Top Workplaces.
Summary
The Special Projects Director / Deputy Chief of Staff plays a key role in advancing Speros' most important priorities. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Initiatives and working closely with the Speros President and broader leadership team, this position leads complex, cross-functional projects. The role also develops and implements systems, processes, and operational frameworks that enhance team performance and enable leadership to focus on strategic priorities. While providing direct support to the Director, Strategic Initiatives on both specific projects and team-wide priorities, the position will progressively assume ownership of a portfolio of projects.
Leads Strategic and Special Projects
• Manages discrete, high-priority initiatives from initial problem
definition through implementation.
• Translates broad strategic objectives into clear workstreams,
milestones, owners, dependencies and decision points.
• Develops project plans and drives execution across teams while
ensuring alignment across stakeholders, including team
members who do not have a direct reporting relationship to this
role.
• Identify risks, resolve issues and escalate decisions at the right
moments rather than allowing projects to stall.
• Coordinates internal and external partners, consultants and
subject-matter experts around shared deliverables.
• Conducts research and analysis to inform decisions, frame
options and develop recommendations for leadership.
• Steps into emerging or under-resourced priorities and rapidly
creates enough structure to move them forward.
• Builds an independent portfolio over time, with increasing
responsibility for defining and leading initiatives rather than only
supporting existing work
Builds Systems That Support the Whole Speros Team
Helps manage Speros' portfolio of priorities, creating visibility into
what is underway, what is at risk and where leadership attention
is needed.
• Builds practical systems for work planning, project tracking,
decision documentation, follow-through and accountability across
the team.
• Strengthens meeting cadences so recurring forums drive
decisions and action rather than simply information sharing.
• Supports KPI definition, tracking and recurring performance
reporting.
• Improves document management, shared resources, onboarding
materials, slide libraries and other forms of institutional
knowledge.
• Creates lightweight, repeatable processes that help a growing
team operate with greater consistency without adding
unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Looks continuously for opportunities to simplify how the team
works, reduce friction and make execution more reliable.
Supports and Extends the Director, Strategic Initiatives Portfolio
• Serves as a thought and execution partner to the Director,
Strategic Initiatives across a broad portfolio of strategic and
organizational priorities.
• Maintains context across major workstreams, anticipates needs,
connects dependencies and identifies issues before they become
urgent.
• Prepares executive briefings, decision memos, presentations,
dashboards and other materials that turn complexity into clear
choices.
• Participates in select internal and external meetings and ensures decisions translate into action.
• Helps triage incoming issues and determines what requires
leadership attention versus what can be independently resolved.
• Takes increasing ownership for workstreams as context,
judgment and organizational trust grow, allowing the Director,
Strategic Initiatives to move from project manager to sponsor on
more initiatives.
Builds Productive Working Relationships
• Builds productive working relationships across Speros, Moffitt
and a wide range of external partners.
• Coordinates initiatives that cross organizational boundaries,
functional teams and subject areas.
• Quickly learns enough about unfamiliar domains to identify the
right questions, people, dependencies and decisions.
• Creates clarity where ownership is distributed or evolving and
helps information move effectively between teams.
• Approaches colleagues as a partner who helps work move faster,
not as a compliance layer.
Minimum Experience Required
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, with evidence of progressively greater
responsibility and independent project ownership.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing stakeholders without direct reporting
authority, while maintaining momentum and ensuring successful outcomes.
Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders and across organizational boundaries.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and execute complex projects with limited direction,
including defining objectives, establishing work plans, assigning responsibilities, and driving
results.
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple
priorities, deadlines, commitments, and dependencies simultaneously.
• Proven ability to work effectively in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments, analyze
unfamiliar situations, and develop structured solutions.
• Broad business acumen with the ability to adapt to diverse assignments involving analysis, stakeholder engagement, process improvement, project management, and executive-level
communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex
information and develop materials for senior leaders, executives, and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, including the ability to
operate independently and appropriately escalate issues when needed.
• Strong process improvement and operational management skills, with the ability to develop
practical solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Proven ability to anticipate challenges, identify risks and opportunities, take initiative, and maintain
accountability for achieving results and completing deliverables.
• Comfort learning unfamiliar subject areas quickly and operating in a fast-moving environment.
