Senior Accountant (Remote – Colombia)
Full-time | Paid in USD
About Us
At Acquisition Lab, we partner with entrepreneurs who acquire and operate profitable small businesses across the United States. Our Colombia-based finance team supports these businesses by building accurate, reliable, and decision-ready financials.
The Role
This is not a traditional bookkeeping or data-entry role.
As a Senior Accountant, you will own the accounting function for a portfolio of U.S. companies and serve as the first level of financial review before the Controller. You’ll be expected to manage the books end-to-end, understand the business behind the numbers, investigate discrepancies and unusual trends, and proactively surface issues and insights.
We’re looking for someone with strong accounting fundamentals, analytical thinking, professional judgment, curiosity, and a high level of ownership.
What You’ll Own
Accounting & Month-End Close
- Own the general ledger and month-end close for assigned entities
- Prepare and self-review P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements under U.S. GAAP
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, payroll entries, and other adjusting entries
- Perform bank, credit card, intercompany, and Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Maintain supporting schedules for fixed assets, depreciation, debt, ROU assets, and other material balances
- Identify and resolve missing entries, unusual balances, incorrect classifications, and accounting inconsistencies
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Perform month-over-month and other relevant variance analysis across P&L and Balance Sheet accounts
- Investigate unusual movements, margins, trends, and balances and provide clear explanations
- Review revenue recognition, deferred revenue, cost allocations, and margin visibility
- Support multi-entity consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and management reporting
- Proactively flag financial or accounting issues requiring Controller or management attention
Accounts Payable & Accounting Operations
- Record and review vendor bills and maintain accurate AP balances
- Prepare weekly payment schedules and support payment processing through platforms such as Ramp
- Coordinate vendor follow-ups, missing invoices, payment information, and discrepancies
- Review accounting integrations and mappings and investigate errors rather than assuming system-generated entries are correct
Business & Controller Support
- Work directly with U.S. operators and the Controller
- Research accounting questions and propose solutions before escalating
- Clearly explain what changed in the financials, why it changed, and whether action is required
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, controls, and month-end procedures as the portfolio grows
Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years working with U.S. companies
- Strong hands-on knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting
- Demonstrated experience owning month-end close and financial statement preparation
- Strong understanding of revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, and Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Experience performing financial statement and variance analysis
- Ability to independently investigate accounting discrepancies and propose solutions
- QuickBooks Online proficiency — required
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets
- English B2+ with the ability to communicate directly with U.S. stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience with Ramp, Gusto, Double, or similar platforms
- Multi-entity accounting and financial statement consolidation experience
- AP and vendor management experience
- Experience supporting weekly and/or monthly payroll processing for employees and contractors
- Experience with multi-currency environments
Who Thrives Here
You’ll likely thrive in this role if you take ownership of the quality of your books, naturally investigate when numbers don’t make sense, and are comfortable working independently across multiple businesses. You know when to solve an issue yourself and when to escalate it, and you want to grow beyond accounting execution into financial analysis and Controller-level responsibilities.
What You Get
- 100% remote
- 10 PTO days
- 7 U.S. holidays + 3 local holidays
- Compensation in USD
- Direct exposure to multiple U.S. businesses, Controllers, and operators
- Hands-on experience with multi-entity reporting, consolidations, accounting, finance, and operations
- High-growth environment with meaningful responsibility
