Compensation: $90,000-$100,000 Base, plus benefits with potential for annual bonus based on performance
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Location: Hybrid *1 day a week in office required in Marin area
The Senior Accountant is the second set of expert hands in a small, high-trust finance team. You will own the cash forecast that tells leadership what we can commit to, close the books on a predictable calendar, and turn the results into something Sales and Operations can actually use. Because we import, our numbers move with exchange rates, ocean freight, and supplier terms so this role sits close to the business, not off to the side of it. This is an individual contributor role that builds as much as it maintains processes.
Our reporting function is young, our ERP is evolving, and the person in this seat will have real influence over how the work gets designed.
Responsibilities:
- Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations; manage the general ledger close by the 15th of each month; and provide monthly and quarterly reporting with clear variance analysis.
- Cash Management & Forecasting: Maintain a rolling 90–120-day cash forecast, recommend weekly payment priorities, execute international supplier payments in multiple currencies, and monitor foreign exchange impacts.
- Inventory & Cost Accounting: Calculate and reconcile landed inventory costs, investigate margin variances, partner with Operations on COGS and pricing, and support inventory valuation and counts.
- Accounts Payable & Supplier Management: Oversee the full AP cycle, maintain accurate aging, reconcile supplier statements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure payments align with negotiated terms.
- Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Manage timely CDTFA sales tax and CalRecycle CRV filings and payments, maintaining accurate records and a calendar of reporting deadlines.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Maintain vendor master data in SAP Business One, support ERP and AP automation initiatives, strengthen internal controls, and streamline accounting processes.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Prepare monthly Sales expense reporting against budget, support external accountants and financial partners, and provide actionable financial insights to Sales and Operations.
Requirements
THE KIND OF PERSON WHO THRIVES HERE We’re looking for someone who enjoys ownership as much as accuracy. You’ll likely be successful if you:
- Takes initiative, follows through, and works independently.
- Enjoys improving systems, streamlining processes, and building structure.
- Communicates financial information clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Balances strong attention to detail with an understanding of broader business priorities.
What You’ll Need:
- Ability to travel to the Marin HQ office for in-person onboarding and work once a week in office.
- 4-5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle general ledger accounting.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel - pivot tables, lookups, and comfort working with large data sets.
- Hands-on experience in SAP Business One or a comparable ERP.
- Accuracy of work others rely on without re-checking, and the judgment to know when something doesn't tie.
- Clear written and verbal communication with finance and non-finance audiences alike, and consistent follow-through.
- Self-management: sets priorities, works independently in a remote setting, meets deadlines, and raises issues early rather than late.
- Must currently reside in Bay Area with ability to commute onsite 1 x a week.
- Must have a valid US driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check for all candidates who receive a contingent offer.
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Familiarity with how foreign exchange rates flow into inventory cost.
- Experience with an ERP implementation, migration, or AP automation rollout.
- Public accounting background.
