ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking an Accounting Manager for American Campus Communities (ACC), a Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company and the largest owner, manager and developer of high-quality student housing communities in the United States. This role is based in Bengaluru, India and is hired through Revantage India.

The Accounting Manager leads a Bengaluru-based accounting team responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and review of financial information across assigned entities and accounting processes. Working under the direction of the Senior Director – Accounting and in close coordination with US-based Accounting leadership, the Manager oversees recurring close activities, reviews accounting work product and helps ensure deliverables are completed in accordance with US GAAP, company policies, established review standards and internal control requirements.

The Accounting Manager serves as the primary day-to-day point of accountability for the team’s execution, including workload management, review of reconciliations and journal entries, resolution of routine accounting issues and development of Accounting Associates. The role is expected to identify exceptions, maintain strong documentation and controls, and escalate matters requiring significant judgment or technical interpretation to senior leadership.

Primary Role

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of assigned accounting activities, ensuring close and reporting deliverables are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with established accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial schedules, supporting workpapers and other accounting deliverables prepared by Accounting Associates, ensuring accuracy, completeness and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Manage assigned month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities, including work allocation, completion tracking, review deadlines and escalation of issues that could affect timely close.
  • Review balance sheet accounts and financial results for unusual items, reconciling differences and accounting exceptions, and work with the team to resolve routine matters or escalate items requiring additional judgment.
  • Lead and develop Accounting Associates, establishing clear performance expectations, allocating workload, providing coaching and training, and ensuring consistent application of established accounting and review standards.
  • Establish and monitor key operating metrics for the team, including close timeliness, reconciliation completion, unresolved accounting exceptions, review status and other measures of quality and execution effectiveness.
  • Maintain a strong accounting control environment within ACC’s broader control framework, including completion of assigned controls, appropriate segregation of duties, review evidence and adherence to documented procedures.
  • Partner with US-based Accounting leadership and other Finance stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, respond to information requests and support the accurate and timely delivery of financial information.
  • Support internal and external audit activities, including review and coordination of supporting documentation, resolution of assigned audit requests and remediation of identified process or control issues.
  • Maintain clear and consistent accounting procedures, review standards and supporting documentation across assigned processes, and ensure they are understood and followed by the team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, standardize recurring processes, reduce manual effort and improve the use of Oracle Fusion, FloQast, Excel, AI and other automation capabilities.
  • Partner with the Senior Director, US-based leadership and Revantage India on staffing, hiring, performance management and team development to ensure appropriate capacity and capability.
  • Work from the Bengaluru office under the hybrid working model, with working hours aligned to provide meaningful daily overlap with US business hours; flexibility is expected during month-end and year-end close, audit periods and other peak reporting cycles.
  • Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a related field is required; CA, CMA, MBA (Finance) or another relevant professional qualification is preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including experience within a large, multi-entity organization or shared-services environment.
  • Two or more years of experience reviewing accounting work and providing day-to-day direction, coaching or supervision to other team members is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and core accounting processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, financial statement accounts and period-end close.
  • Demonstrated ability to review accounting work product, identify errors or unusual items and distinguish routine issues from matters requiring escalation or technical judgment.
  • Experience working within an ERP environment is required; Oracle Fusion experience is preferred.
  • Experience using close management software platforms such as BlackLine or FloQast is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of internal controls, segregation of duties and SOX or comparable control environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with large volumes of financial information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage recurring close deadlines, competing priorities and multiple team deliverables.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in business English, with the ability to document accounting conclusions and collaborate effectively with US-based teams and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience using spreadsheets to support reconciliations, account analysis and financial reporting.
  • Experience within real estate, property management, hospitality or another asset-intensive, multi-entity business is preferred but not required.
