About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to help build, operate, and evolve the cloud infrastructure that powers IXOPAY's global payment technology platforms.

In this hands-on engineering role, you'll take technical ownership of cloud environments across AWS and Microsoft Azure, ensuring our infrastructure remains secure, reliable, scalable, and highly automated. You'll work with modern technologies including Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, and open-source tools to support mission-critical services and data-intensive applications.

Working closely with Platform, Development, and Data Engineering teams, you'll design resilient cloud architectures, improve operational efficiency, and help shape the technical direction of our infrastructure. Your primary focus will include the environments supporting Congrify, IXO ONE, and IXOPAY's Analytics Platform.

This is an opportunity to have meaningful technical ownership within a collaborative team of experienced engineers, where autonomy, continuous improvement, and practical problem-solving are central to how we work.

What You'll Do

Design & Operate Cloud Infrastructure

• Design, build, and operate secure, highly available, and scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and Microsoft Azure.

• Take technical ownership of cloud environments supporting IXOPAY's payment intelligence, orchestration, and analytics platforms.

• Operate and continuously improve Kubernetes clusters and cloud-native services to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.

• Support data-intensive infrastructure and analytical workloads, including platforms using ClickHouse.

• Evaluate infrastructure architecture and technology choices to support evolving business and engineering requirements.

Drive Automation & Infrastructure Excellence

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, OpenTofu, Puppet, and related technologies.

• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment, and recurring operational processes.

• Improve infrastructure consistency, maintainability, and efficiency through modern engineering practices.

• Identify opportunities to simplify complex environments, reduce manual effort, and strengthen platform resilience.

Improve Reliability, Security & Performance

• Enhance monitoring, observability, and alerting to proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues.

• Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, and platform-related challenges.

• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Identify and address risks related to infrastructure performance, availability, scalability, and security.

• Contribute to infrastructure practices that support IXOPAY's security and compliance requirements.

Collaborate & Shape Technical Direction

• Partner with Development, Platform, and Data Engineering teams to design and operate reliable cloud-based services.

• Contribute to architectural decisions involving cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, databases, and platform technologies.

• Independently lead technical initiatives from initial design through implementation and production operations.

• Share knowledge, challenge assumptions, and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

• Support a culture of technical ownership, open communication, and continuous learning.

What You'll Bring

Required

• Several years of professional experience in Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related infrastructure engineering role.

• Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating production cloud environments in AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure in production environments.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management technologies such as Terraform, OpenTofu, Puppet, or Ansible.

• Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, Go, or similar languages.

• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure fundamentals, including networking, compute, storage, security, and high availability.

• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and improving system reliability and performance.

• Ability to independently own technical initiatives and drive solutions from architecture and implementation through ongoing operations.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.

• Very good written and spoken German language skills.

Preferred

• Experience working across both AWS and Microsoft Azure.

• Strong Linux systems administration experience.

• Experience designing, modernizing, or migrating cloud infrastructure.

• Experience operating data-intensive platforms or analytical databases such as ClickHouse.

• Experience with monitoring and observability technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps, and automated infrastructure deployment practices.

• Experience supporting highly available, security-sensitive, or regulated technology environments.

• Technical education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Relevant cloud, Kubernetes, or infrastructure certifications.

Compensation: The minimum gross annual salary for this position is €76,000, with actual compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
