Role Overview
The General Counsel Organization (GCO) at McKesson is dedicated to advancing our enterprise strategy, navigating complexity, and shaping healthcare with integrity, creativity, and agility. We strive to amplify a culture of compliance, champion our company brand, and invest in our team as we reimagine how we work in the age of AI. The GCO includes Law, Compliance, Corporate Affairs, Enterprise Quality, Global Safety and Security and GCO Strategy, Innovations and Operations (SIO), and is comprised of approximately 600+ team members across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The Senior Director, Strategic Planning and & Operations will play a critical leadership role within the SIO organization by translating strategy into execution and advancing transformation across the GCO. Reporting to the VP, Strategy, Innovation and Operations, this leader will lead a team responsible of professionals that run department operations, vendor and outside counsel management, budget stewardship, and the transformation planning. The leader will jointly steward the GCO elements of AIM28, McKesson’s multi-year AI-enabled transformation strategy, with other members of the SIO leadership team. This includes partnering across GCO with leaders to modernize operations, improve employee experience, determine their strategy, track initiative-level business value, and provide transparent updates that support sustained impact and adoption across Law, Compliance, Corporate Affairs, Enterprise Quality, Global Safety and Security, and SIO. This leader also will lead the Outside Counsel transformation.
The successful candidate brings a forward-looking strategy and operations mindset, with demonstrated experience leading transformation offices, modernizing service delivery models and managing global teams.
They also have hands on experience with change management and leveraging Ai to scale operations. The leader knows how to make clear tradeoffs and recommendations amid ambiguity, grounded in data, technology, and sound judgment. They move with urgency on the work that matters most by simplifying governance, accelerating decision cycles, and removing barriers to adoption. They build inclusive, high-performing teams and develop future-ready talent while leading with authenticity and transparency through complex change.

- Steward the AIM28 transformation project portfolio across the GCO and track selected end end-to-end transformation initiatives across the legal function, ensuring they are sequenced, resourced, governed, and adopted in alignment with GCO priorities.
- Anticipate organizational, cultural, and capability impacts of change and proactively address barriers to adoption.
Outside Counsel Transformation & Department Operations
- Refresh the way the GCO governs, engages and the way we capture value from our law firm partnerships, including panel management, performance expectations, service quality, cost discipline, and strategic alignment.
- Develop a proactive, collaborative partnership with the law firms and Legal leaders, and serve as an accountability partner for panel guidelines, engagement practices, and value expectations.
