What you'll be doing...

The Global Network Management organization has an opening for a Sr Director to lead the Wireless Network Management Center (WNMC). This leader is responsible for the 24x7 monitoring, triage, restoration, and containment of issues across Verizon's wireless RAN, Edge, and Core, and for the technical and operational leaders and teams who carry out that work. The scope includes Tier 1 operations, outage management and customer outage communication, change and maintenance coordination, and the automation and AI tooling that is reshaping how the network is run. A successful candidate will bring strong leadership, collaboration, and technical skills. They will be expected to define objectives, set priorities, align resources, brief executive teams, achieve OpEx and CapEx goals, improve network performance, and develop future leaders while reducing customer impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multi-tiered organization of network operations leaders, engineers, and technologists supporting wireless RAN, Edge, and Core operations in a 24x7 environment, including onshore and global offshore teams
  • Own the unified WNMC operating model, driving consistent processes, handoffs, outage containment, and communication across previously separate Tier 1 functions
  • Drive outage and incident management for wireless events, including bridge leadership, escalation, restoration, and executive communication
  • Improve customer outage communication, with measurable reduction in time-to-notify across RAN events
  • Develop and execute a work containment strategy that resolves a growing share of RAN tickets within the WNMC, expanding use cases through automation and reporting progress to senior leadership on a regular cadence
  • Lead the adoption of AI and automation across the NMC, including closed-loop remediation, alarm correlation and noise reduction, automated ticket updates, and e-bonding, and move the team from building tools to running on them
  • Partner with network assurance, Network AI, maintenance engineering, systems, and field organizations to define complete business requirements and avoid duplicated workflows and rework
  • Oversee large-scale network software upgrade programs across RAN vendors (Ericsson, Samsung, and Nokia), including automation of upgrade and configuration compliance work to reduce vendor dependency and external cost
  • Own the operational tooling and data platforms used by the NMC, including ticketing, alarm and event management, and call-flow investigation tools, and lead migrations to common platforms
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and third-party partners, including escalation processes and accountability for resolution
  • Enforce operational discipline, including daily operations reviews with documented LODs, outages, and follow-ups, so that information carries across shifts and leaders
  • Optimize and administer the capital and expense budgets and drive an automation culture
  • Establish a high standard of team performance objectives, assess and upskill team capabilities for an automation- and AI-driven environment, and support career development and progression
  • Champion a highly collaborative work model, building and maintaining relationships across teams at multiple senior levels, internally and externally
  • Ensure compliance with Verizon and department objectives and financial priorities

What we're looking for...

Job Qualifications:

  • Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree
  • 8+ years of leadership experience in Network Operations, Network Engineering, or IT
  • Proven leadership skills and business acumen within a large organization
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Verizon Wireless network, including RAN, Edge, and Core, and of NMC or NOC operations
  • Experience working in a large, global, multi-disciplined, multi-matrixed organization, including leading teams across time zones
  • Experience building relationships with business leaders across Network Engineering, Network Assurance, Maintenance Engineering, Field Operations, Customer Operations, and other GN&T business units
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time or as needed

Desired General Skills & Experience:

  • Strong wireless networking knowledge and experience, including multi-vendor RAN environments
  • Established track record in managing complex processes, driving results, and adapting to change
  • Demonstrated success leading large 24x7 operations organizations and delivering outage, restoration, and customer communication improvements
  • Experience applying automation and AI to network operations, and leading teams through the change in skills and ways of working that this requires
