About CloudWerx
At CloudWerx, we’re building what’s next in cloud, data, and AI, helping organizations turn powerful technology into meaningful, real-world impact. What makes CloudWerx special isn’t just the technology. It’s the people behind it. We’re a global team of builders, problem-solvers, and trusted advisors who are curious by nature, ambitious about what we can create, and not afraid to challenge the way things have always been done.

Here, great ideas can come from anywhere. You’ll have the trust to take ownership, the freedom to bring your perspective to the table, and the opportunity to make a visible impact as we grow. We’re building something exciting, and we’re looking for talented people who want to build it with us. If you’re curious, collaborative, and energized by solving meaningful problems, we’d love to meet you.

CloudWerx is hiring for an AI Software Engineering leader to set how we build with AI, ship real products for clients, and grow the practice as its owner. You'll shape it from the start, with a talented team for peers and practitioners.

About the Role
We're looking for a Director of AI Engineering to lead and scale our AI engineering practice, helping clients turn emerging AI technologies into secure, scalable, real-world solutions. In this role, you'll combine technical expertise, strategic leadership, and commercial thinking to shape our AI capabilities, lead high-impact client engagements, and build strong engineering teams.

You are a hands-on software development leader and an expert in building with AI. You lead AI-native product and software engineering, Agentic Quality Engineering and evals, production AI applications, and the modernization of legacy software.

This is a player-coach role, as you will stay hands-on as an architect. You review code and designs, and you build alongside the team. You also lead people and grow the practice, from proposals and SOWs to the practice P&L, in close partnership with Sales.

You'll work closely with our CTO, Sales and Delivery leaders, our Data, AI/ML and AI Platform practices, and our clients. Data, AI/ML owns data foundations, MLOps and predictive models. AI Platform owns the platforms, security and governance your applications run on. You set how engineers build with AI. Our enablement practice owns training and the developer experience.

What You'll Do

AI Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the strategy and growth of our AI Software engineering practice, aligning technical capabilities with client needs and business priorities.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-first engineering practices, including agentic AI, AI-assisted development, RAG, evaluation frameworks, and modern software delivery.
  • Establish technical standards, reusable architectures, and best practices to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions.
  • Package what works as reusable accelerators, reference implementations and playbooks that shorten ramp-up on new engagements.

Client Engagement & Business Growth

  • Partner with Sales and Delivery teams to identify opportunities, shape solutions, and support proposals, estimates, SOWs, and client presentations.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior client stakeholders, translating complex AI capabilities into meaningful business outcomes.
  • Contribute to practice growth, financial performance, and successful delivery of client engagements.

Run an AI-Native SDLC

  • Define the AI-DLC with intent-driven, spec-driven development, agent-written code under human review, and verification gates on the way to production.
  • Roll out agentic coding tools and MCP integrations across our teams and client teams at scale, with the security, compliance and training enterprises expect.
  • Stand up AI-first pods that pair our engineers with the client's, each one working toward a business outcome.
  • Make delivery speed and quality measurable, through lead time, defect and rework trends, and report them in terms client leaders care about.

Engineering Delivery

  • Provide technical oversight and architectural guidance across key AI engineering engagements.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to ensure solutions meet quality, security, performance, and client expectations.
  • Develop reusable frameworks, accelerators, and tools that improve delivery efficiency and consistency.

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Partner with Delivery and People & Culture on workforce planning, hiring, and capability development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.

What You Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in engineering leadership, ideally within a consulting or client-facing environment.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex, enterprise-scale technology solutions.
  • You have shipped AI products or applications, including agentic systems, to production and run them for real users.
  • You still read, write and review code. You can trace and fix a broken agent workflow, and you review the toughest parts of a build yourself rather than delegating them.
  • You have moved an engineering team onto an AI-native or agentic SDLC, with agentic coding tools adopted securely at scale, and can show what changed in lead time and quality.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of generative AI, agentic AI, LLM applications, RAG, and AI-assisted software development.
  • Experience taking AI solutions from proof of concept to production, with a focus on scalability, security, reliability, and responsible AI.
  • Strong cloud engineering expertise, preferably with Google Cloud, along with experience in modern software architecture, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience partnering with Sales and Delivery teams on solution design, technical proposals, client engagements, and commercial opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and develop engineering talent across distributed teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage technical teams and senior business leaders.
