The Role
We’re seeking a Senior Firmware/Control Systems Engineer to serve as a technical leader across our embedded, controls, and cross-functional engineering teams. This role owns complex firmware architectures, drives control system innovation, and sets the technical standard for how IPA designs and ships firmware — from coding practices to hardware/software integration. You’ll play a key role in mentoring other engineers, shaping team processes, and ensuring our products perform reliably in the field.
What You’ll Do
- Architect firmware and control system solutions for entire products, establishing coding standards and best practices adopted across the team.
- Design scalable software architectures and communication frameworks for multi-device networks, including hardware/software co-design.
- Design novel control approaches and optimization techniques and mentor others in control theory and embedded development.
- Establish testing, validation, and root cause analysis standards used across products.
- Lead firmware workstreams within larger programs, ensuring milestones are met, and dependencies are managed proactively.
- Redesign team processes to eliminate bottlenecks, mentor engineers on complex problem-solving, and help the team stay ahead of industry trends.
What You Bring
- A strong technical foundation in firmware/embedded systems engineering, with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep expertise in C/C++, real-time embedded systems, and control theory.
- A proven track record architecting firmware and control systems for complex, multi-device or mission-critical products.
- Experience establishing coding standards, design patterns, and reusable frameworks that scale across a team.
- Strong root cause analysis skills and a track record resolving complex system failures.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present to senior leadership.
You’ll Excel If You
- Enjoy owning technical problems end-to-end — from architecture and design through implementation and validation.
- Are energized by mentoring other engineers and raising the technical bar for a whole team.
- Can navigate ambiguity confidently, translating complex technical tradeoffs into clear direction.
- Communicate credibly with a wide range of stakeholders, from individual contributors to senior leaders.
- Are motivated by building scalable, reliable systems in complex or regulated environments where quality truly matters.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to own firmware and control system architecture in a high-impact, technical leadership role.
- Direct partnership with systems, software, and QA teams to shape how IPA designs and ships products.
- Autonomy to mentor engineers, redesign team processes, and influence technical direction beyond your immediate scope.
- Professional development and career growth within a growing engineering organization.
- A hybrid work model with flexibility and collaboration built in (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).
- Competitive compensation, bonus eligibility, and a comprehensive benefits package.
