Lingraphica is a mission-driven organization that provides speech-generating devices to help improve communication, speech, and quality of life for people with communication impairments. Lingraphica is a leader in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) technology, helping people with aphasia and other speech and language impairments communicate and engage more fully in daily life. Through a combination of innovative devices, software, and services, Lingraphica is focused on improving communication outcomes and supporting individuals, families, and care teams. We look for candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment, and who share our commitment to helping individuals on their communication journey.
About the Role: The Senior Product Designer helps teams identify and solve meaningful user and business problems across Lingraphica's connected product ecosystem. Depending on company priorities, this designer may work on MyNav, (Lingraphica’s customer and clinician portal); the Hub (communication software on our speech-generating devices); or Practice and therapy experiences.
This is a Senior Product Designer role, not only a UI execution role. The designer will partner closely with Product and Engineering from early discovery through delivery, helping define the problem, shape the strategy, explore solutions, and evaluate whether the experience produces the intended outcome. The right person is comfortable navigating ambiguity, brings structure to complex problems, and grounds design decisions in direct learning with users.
Responsibilities
Partner with Product and Engineering to define user and business problems, shape product strategy, and connect design work to clear outcomes and measures of success.
Build deep knowledge of AAC and assistive technology, including our users, products, clinical workflows, data, and competitive landscape.
Plan and lead discovery with people with communication challenges, care partners, clinicians, customers, and internal experts using interviews, observation, co-design, concept testing, and usability testing.
Synthesize research, product data, business goals, and technical constraints into insights and recommendations that guide product decisions.
Explore multiple approaches and translate complex workflows and accessibility needs into clear user flows, prototypes, interaction models, and polished designs.
Design accessible, intuitive, and consistent experiences across device, web, and mobile products for people with diverse communication, cognitive, motor, visual, and hearing needs.
Use AI as a thoughtful, repeatable part of the design workflow and translate emerging AI and data-informed concepts into understandable, responsible product experiences.
Partner closely with engineers through implementation, adapting to constraints while maintaining the intent and quality of the experience.
Use prototypes, iterative testing, and post-launch learning to reduce risk and evaluate whether solutions address the original problem.
Communicate design rationale, evidence, value, and tradeoffs clearly; contribute to shared design systems and practices; and help raise the quality of product thinking, discovery, accessibility, critique, and craft across the organization.
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of product design experience, including meaningful ownership of complex digital products from discovery through delivery and iteration.
Portfolio demonstrating strong problem framing, strategic thinking, and design skills.
Experience planning and facilitating user research and collaborative discovery sessions, then translating what was learned into actionable product direction.
Strong interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, and visual design skills across web, mobile, or device-based experiences.
Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity, influence product direction, and collaborate effectively with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional partners.
Ability to explain design rationale, challenge assumptions constructively, incorporate feedback, and make thoughtful tradeoffs.
Proficiency in Figma or similar design tools
Strong knowledge of accessibility principles and WCAG 2.1 or later
Excellent communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Strong time management and attention to detail; a self-starter who takes ownership and follows through.
Bachelor's degree in HCI, interaction design, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and practical experience
This is a fully remote role within the U.S.; Must be able to travel within the U.S. (including airline travel) 2 times per year for in-person team and all-company meetings with possible additional travel (approximately 2–4 times annually).
