Job Summary: The Sr. Supply Chain Engineer – Network Optimization serves as a technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and executing supply chain network studies for clients across multiple industries. This role leads analytical workstreams involving network optimization, transportation modeling, facility location analysis, inventory positioning, and cost-to-serve assessments. The Senior Supply Chain Engineer independently owns the end-to-end modeling process, from data validation and model development through scenario evaluation and executive-level recommendations. The position collaborates closely with clients, Project Leads, and consulting leadership to deliver data-driven strategies that improve service levels, reduce operating costs, increase network resilience, and support long-term business growth. Location: This is a remote position Duties & Responsibilities: Supply Chain Analysis and Assessment: Evaluate clients' existing supply chain processes, systems, and workflows to identify inefficiencies. Collect all relevant operational and procedural requirements necessary to assist in the requested planning and design efforts on a proposal. Serve as main point for all data analysis, validation of summaries, and interpretations by client to assess distribution profiles, inventory levels, logistics performance, and cost structures. Leverage Supply Chain and Operational knowledge to help lead efforts to provide initial insights and recommendations to optimize supply chain operations based on these findings. Strategy Development and Implementation: Develop and evaluate strategic supply chain scenarios to optimize network performance, including facility footprint changes, transportation strategies, inventory positioning, and risk mitigation initiatives. Quantify the cost, service, and operational impacts of proposed network designs to support data-driven decision making. Educate clients on industry’s best practices for supply chain management and processes, as well as assist clients in adopting new technologies or software to enhance supply chain execution. Develop any additional services strategies and proposals, as well as recommendations to the client for consideration. Part of the transition team when a proposed project is converted to Solutioning or Implementation phase to educate the assigned Project Engineering team on all the relevant information, they will need to support the Tompkins Project Manager in completing the project. Risk Management and Compliance: Identify potential risks in the supply chain or warehouse design. Advise clients on contingency planning to prepare for supply chain disruptions or emergencies. Continuous Improvement and Training: Drive the continuous improvement process within the Supply Chain Consulting Team by refining processes and defining standards of the overall deliverables provided by the department. Monitor the results of project outcomes, adjusting strategies as needed. Support the Commercial Team leadership in the creation of processes, documentation, marketing materials, and other tasks that require attention as the division continues to grow and evolve Stay informed of industry trends and advancements in supply chain to provide cutting-edge solutions. Qualifications: BS in a technical discipline (IE, ME, or equivalent experience). 5 – 7 years’ relevant experience in supply chain management, consulting, or a similar field analyzing and summarizing operations with an eye for improvements. Extensive knowledge of distribution centers, including data validation, operational procedures, material flows, distribution networks, the design process and storage and automation solutions. Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and supply chain modeling. Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, as well as MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. Python, DAX, VBA and Simulation software knowledge is a plus. Knowledge of supply chain tools in Network Optimization (Optilogic, GAINS, Coupa). Capable of prioritizing tasks and delivering results for quick-turn projects with aggressive deadlines with a strong attention to detail. Requires critical thinking skills, communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; ability to work with clients, management, and multidiscipline development teams. Skilled at influencing and persuading team members, as well as ability to work across multiple levels of organization (both inside and outside of Tompkins). Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% +/-.
