A Day in the Life

As the Sr. Trader EU Gasoline Components and Oxyfuels you will be responsible for leading the company’s Gasoline Blending Components & Oxyfuels trading book in Europe, Middle East and Africa under the direction of the Gasoline Blending Components and Naphtha Global Head.

You ensure disciplined risk management, market leadership, and value creation through innovative trading strategies. Furthermore, you serve as the company’s representative to external counterparties and drive alignment between regional trading activities, optimization and corporate objectives. You will play a pivotal role in building out LYB’s commercial strategy in this space while developing junior traders and schedulers.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a key commercial lead in Gasoline Components and Oxyfuels, creating and executing strategies that generate P&L while effectively managing market and operational risks.
  • Lead, mentor and develop traders within their team, ensuring consistent execution of trading strategies their region. Actively engage and collaborate with teams such as commercial operations and analytics.
  • Oversee a broad portfolio of the company’s liquids production, balancing risk and return while optimizing portfolio performance. Products will include alkylate, raffinate, aromatic gasoline components, and finished gasoline with a primary focus on MTBE and ETBE, and ethanol.
  • Serves as process owner for EU biofuels sustainability compliance.
  • Ensure all transactions between traders and company assets flow seamlessly through Supply Coordinators.
  • Negotiate complex commercial agreements with refiners, petrochemical companies, trade houses, marketers, banks, and end users to leverage the company’s natural positions and improve commercial integration across the portfolio.
  • Oversee the creation and deployment of proprietary trading models and custom forward pricing curves.
  • Drive value-added strategies such as arbitrage, blending, storage plays, and niche customer access.
  • Build out a comprehensive system of regional blend netbacks for each product in the portfolio and related products in the market to enable accurate valuation of gasoline blending components globally.
  • Manage price risk exposure within the regional commodity portfolio.
  • Monitor and optimize market liquidity, contract optionality, and price elasticity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for their respective commodities and regional markets, offering strategic insights within IST&O and other LYB business areas. Provides input into LYB financial forecasting process.
  • Manage emerging market opportunities and competitive threats in partnership with business development, ensuring proactive responses.

You Bring This Value

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in commodity trading, operations, blending, or related commercial leadership roles.
    • Demonstrated success in managing gasoline related trading portfolios, developing asset backed businesses, and building operational excellence.
  • Track record of innovation in trading strategies and risk management.
  • Expertise in market insight, price discovery, and portfolio management with specific focus on Atlantic basin gasoline component trading and the naphtha / suboctane markets.
  • Proven ability to design and execute value strategies (hedging, arbitrage, blending, storage optimization).
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements across global markets.
  • Strong experience in trading and supply integration.
  • Excellent English language skills required
    • In addition, strong Frech language skills are considered a plus

The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable for Netherlands (NL) payroll offers.

The anticipated salary range for this full-time position is €127,200.00 - €174,900.00. The starting compensation will be determined based on skills, experience and qualifications.
