Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant performs accounting functions according to established accounting principles (GAAP). The role assists the Controller/ VP Finance and Assistant Controller/ Accounting Manager with various tasks to help maintain up to date work and reconciliations and supports other departments, as needed. This position assists with process improvement, departmental efficiency, regulatory reporting and updating procedures. The Staff Account completes timely and accurate general ledger reconciliations, month-end closing entries, bank reconciliations, and income and expense variance analysis. This role completes payroll accounting, IRS and Department of Revenue year-end tax reporting, year-end real estate and tangible tax reconcilement, assists Accounts Payable as needed, and performs various other daily accounting functions. The position must participate in annual training or as required for BSA and the Privacy Act.

- Prepare all bank reconciliations daily and monthly, balancing the bank statements to the general ledger and processing cash letters adjustments and foreign checks. Timely and thorough investigation and follow-up is required to maintain accurate and up-to-date information.
- Prepare daily and monthly journal entries, as needed, assist with month-end close process and reconcile general ledger accounts as assigned.
- Account for all prepaid expenses and maintains subsidiary system reporting.
- Account for all GL accrual accounts.
- Prepare payroll accounting including balancing general ledger entries and compensation reconciliation.
- Assist with month-end expense and income accruals.
- Prepare monthly zero balance GLs review file for manager review.
- Complete month-end variance analysis research.
- Complete miscellaneous duties to include preparing back-up withholding return annually, and processing and balancing loan charge-offs each month-end.
Compliance, Record Maintenance & Reporting
- Maintain records and balance Aries File for examiners and auditors.
- Maintain records and balance prepaid/ expense escrow accounts (i.e., DMV, USPS, TC Delivers).
- Maintain records and balance investment accounting for annuities.
- Distribute Annual Sales Tax Exemption form to all locations.
- Prepare and distribute annual HOA & POA invoice for Achieva Way.
- Report Achieva Wealth Advisors referral semi-monthly.
Service & Collaboration
- Provide prompt, friendly, and accurate service to internal and external customers.
- Represent the credit union in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain a working knowledge of various areas of accounting through extensive job sharing and cross-training as back-up to some Senior Accountant’s duties and other Staff Account duties.
- Recommends process improvements for all assigned tasks and reporting.
- Completes special projects and research as needed, overnights funds reporting, wire transfers for cash management and processing departmental cash letter deposits.

Requirements:
Education and Experience
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years’ accounting experience.

Skills and Attributes
- Ability to complete moderately complex work that requires the interpretation of banking guidelines, rules, and regulations in combination with policies and procedures.
- Strong analytic ability required to gather and interpret data where answers can only be found after careful analysis of several facts. Problems typically require sound judgement to solve.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills in order to maintain quality, and reliable documentation of banking transactions.
- Ability to multi-task as other tasks are assigned with competing priorities.
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Intermediate MS Excel skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance, presence, and demeanor.
- Skill and accuracy with data entry and 10-key.
