General Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant reports to the General Ledger Accounting Supervisor and plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial operations. The role is well suited for an accountant who combines strong accounting fundamentals with curiosity, digital fluency, and an interest in using technology to improve processes and insights.

Hourly Range: $65,000 - $75,000/year

Essential Functions

  • Prepare month-end close journal entries with accuracy and within established deadlines.
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and bank reconciliations, ensuring balances are properly supported and any discrepancies are researched and cleared within the appropriate period.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze and explain period-over-period fluctuations for balance sheet, income statement, and other account balances. Research unusual transactions and account activity.
  • Maintain documentation for recurring accounting processes.
  • Effectively manage workload and deadlines, including increased quarter- and year-end responsibilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying strong digital acumen and leveraging technology to streamline processes, automate workflows, improve efficiency, and strengthen communication across teams.
  • Support internal control processes by ensuring compliance with established controls, assisting internal and external audits, and preparing ad hoc reports.

Internal Control Responsibilities

Supports Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as identifying and recommending improvements to policies, procedures, and controls to better support the business and control environment.

Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.

Job Conditions

This role requires the ability to manage competing priorities, meet time-sensitive deadlines, and maintain focus in a busy office setting. This is a hybrid role that requires employees to work on-site three (3) days per week; subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience. Experience with general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (preferably Oracle), and data analytics tools is preferred.
  • Demonstrated digital acumen and strong interest in using technology to improve accounting processes. Experience with tools such as Power Query, automation, AI-enabled solutions, and other digital tools that improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and enhance decision-making is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize competing responsibilities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and build effective relationships that support all levels of the organization while constructively challenging existing processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 3-6+ hours per day; be mobile within an office environment; exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amounts frequently; keyboard for several hours per day; communicate by phone, in person, and in writing in a professional manner. The individual must possess visual acuity to perform close detail work for operating a computer and examining spreadsheets.
