Staff Accountant II - Job Description

Open Dealer Exchange (ODE), is seeking a Staff Accountant (Level II) to support its workforce in Southfield, MI. As a Staff Accountant II, you will report directly to the Controller and work collaboratively with the entire accounting department. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Accounting Department to perform accurate and expedient accounting functions. The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, has solid mathematical skills, can identify errors, and has obtained an education in an accounting-related field. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the Monthly Closing Process: Support the team in ensuring the monthly financial close is completed accurately and on time.
  • Post Bank Entries: Assist in the timely and accurate posting of bank transactions to maintain up-to-date financial records.
  • Support Monthly Billing Operations: Help ensure clients receive accurate and timely invoices as part of our monthly billing process.
  • Collaborate with CPA Firm on Sales Tax Filings: Work closely with our CPA firm to ensure accurate and timely submission of sales tax returns.
  • Assist with Affiliate Commission Calculations: Help ensure accurate and timely calculation and processing of affiliate commissions.
  • Support the Payroll Process: Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, including posting payroll entries into the accounting system.
  • Prepare Monthly Reporting Package: Assist in preparing and reviewing the monthly financial reporting package.

Requirements

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role
  • Proven experience preparing and posting journal entries
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience with Lookup, conditional and logical functions.
  • Familiarity with Power Query and Power BI is advantageous
  • Strong accountability, flexibility, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
