About Mimo

MimoLabs builds Mimo, an agentic system for making physical things. Describe anything and Mimo helps you make it: he designs the geometry, simulates that it can be made, configures material, process and price, and routes it to production, across 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting and more. Mimo ships today as Mimo Studio for anyone regardless of skill, and we are building developer tools and enterprise solutions for more technical applications.

We are a VC funded, experienced technical team, based at Newlab in Detroit and remote across the US.

About the role

You will own how Mimo computationally generates manufacturable CAD: the geometry methods behind it, the research that decides which methods we build next, and the analysis pipelines and tools that verify what can be made. The work runs across exact and mesh geometry, implicit modeling and simulation, and it ends in parts that print, machine and assemble. You will work alongside the CTO and the research engineer building the generative models, and you will set the geometry roadmap and build most of it.

What you will do

  • Build the methods that produce manufacturable CAD from intent across B-rep, implicit and mesh representations, for example a bracket that meets a load case and prints without supports.

  • Put simulation in the loop: meshing, finite-element and physics-based verification of generated parts, and the loop that feeds results back into the geometry, for example a wall thickness that changes because the analysis said so.

  • Build the analysis pipelines and tools that read, check and characterize CAD and mesh files at scale, for example feature and tolerance extraction, manufacturability checks for additive and subtractive processes, and repair to watertight.

  • Own exact geometry interchange and assemblies: STEP, IGES, 3MF and mesh formats; joints, motion and collision.

  • Run the research practice for geometry: read the field, prototype the methods that matter, and write the memo that decides what we build next.

  • Set the conventions for tolerances, performance and correctness the team builds on.

You may be a good fit if you have

  • 6+ years in computational geometry, CAD kernel or geometry-processing development, with work you can show.

  • B-rep kernel depth (Parasolid, ACIS or equivalent), including kernel internals and the underlying math.

  • Implicit modeling and signed distance fields, and conversion between implicit, B-rep and mesh representations.

  • Computational geometry on meshes: booleans, repair to watertight, remeshing, collision and robust predicates.

  • Simulation experience: finite-element analysis or equivalent physics-based verification, meshing for analysis and solver integration, in production or in research.

  • Python and C++, and either production geometry software you shipped or published geometry research you can point to.

Nice to have

  • Topology optimization and physics-driven generative design (strong plus).

  • Rust (strong plus).

  • Feature trees and history-based modeling internals; feature recognition on B-rep.

  • 2D constraint solvers.

  • Slicing, toolpaths and process knowledge for additive and subtractive manufacturing; design for manufacturing.

  • GPU geometry (CUDA or OpenCL); differentiable geometry.

  • Contributions to open-source geometry kernels or libraries.

How we work

Everyone here runs several AI coding agents on our own tooling, and everyone is free to extend that tooling and change how we build. We judge the work by the physical thing it produces: a part that prints, a toolpath that cuts, a quote that holds. We are fast and adaptable, honest with each other about what is working, and we celebrate the wins. We are a small team that loves what it is building. Geometry depth matters most for this role; prior experience with coding agents is not required.

Pay, equity and benefits

  • $170K–$220K base and equity, four-year vesting with a one-year cliff.

  • Health, dental and vision.

Logistics

  • Location: remote across the US; the company's home is Newlab in Detroit, with occasional travel there.

  • Work authorization: US work authorization is required, and we are not able to sponsor visas for this role. The role works with customer and partner data held under NDA and may require US-person status for export-control compliance.

  • Education: no degree requirement.

  • AI: we use AI tools to organize and summarize applications; a person reads every application and makes every decision. Use AI to prepare yours if you like; the short answers in the form should be your own.

  • Process: a call with a founder, a technical conversation on a real problem from the role, a conversation with the team, references, offer.

  • Safety: we only write from mimolabs.ai addresses and never ask for money, fees or banking details before your first day.
