Staff Electrical Engineer – Electric Distribution

Ann Arbor | Raleigh | Orlando | $110k–$120k+


Brightsmith is partnered with a trusted, 100% employee-owned power engineering client on a critical hiring mandate as they continue to expand their electric distribution engineering team.


They’re looking for experienced Electrical Distribution Engineers who want to take ownership of complex utility projects, work directly with clients and have a clear path toward greater technical and project responsibility.


The opportunity

You’ll work on electrical distribution projects up to 34.5kV, supporting major utility clients across overhead and underground distribution.


The role includes:

• Lead and deliver distribution projects from design through execution

• Develop engineering deliverables, calculations and design packages

• Lead and mentor junior engineers and project teams

• Manage scope, schedule, budget and quality across projects

• Work directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors

• Support project strategy, proposals and business development

• Provide technical leadership across overhead and underground distribution projects

• Progress toward greater responsibility as a technical lead and Engineer of Record


What they’re looking for

• B.S. in Engineering

• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience

• Strong electric distribution design experience

• Experience with overhead and/or underground distribution, 4kV–34.5kV

• Utility-scale project experience in the US.

• Experience working with major investor-owned utilities is highly valued

• Strong communication skills and an interest in client interaction

• PE preferred, with support for engineers working toward licensure
