About the team Routefusion builds the internet's economic infrastructure, making money transactions easy and connecting the world's economies. We're a small and efficient team. We meet in office a few times a week to whiteboard, collaborate and eat great lunches. We have a hybrid in person culture where we do expect you to come in a few times a week for in person collaboration, but after those meetings we do not care if you are working from home or the beach (if Austin had one...cough cough secret beach**). About the role As a Staff Engineer, you will be a critical technical leader, driving the evolution of our core systems that make up our global infrastructure and ultimately serve people and financial systems around the globe. You will partner with many functions at Routefusion, and will be a key influencer in defining technical strategy, education, and culture within the engineering organization. You will work on complex systems and ensure security, scalability, and reliability throughout the stack. The right engineer will allow us to scale faster and more reliably as our business accelerates. If that sounds exciting, we’d love to speak with you. What you’ll do ● Technical Leadership: ○ Help define and drive the technical roadmap for critical platform infrastructure components. ○ Provide architectural guidance and expertise on complex system design and implementation. ○ Identify and solve systemic challenges that impact the scalability and reliability of Routefusion's platform. ○ Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve engineering practices and infrastructure efficiency. ● System Design and Implementation: ○ Design and implement highly scalable, resilient, and performant systems. ○ Develop and maintain core infrastructure services, focusing on security, automation, and observability. ○ Evaluate and adopt technologies and methodologies to enhance Routefusion’s infrastructure capabilities. ● Mentorship and Collaboration: ○ Mentor and guide senior and junior engineers, fostering their technical growth. ○ Collaborate closely with product managers, DevOps, and other engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions. ○ Drive technical discussions and decisions, ensuring alignment across teams. ● Operational Excellence: ○ Ensure high availability and reliability of critical infrastructure services. ○ Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts. ○ Drive continuous improvement in monitoring, alerting, and operational processes. Who you are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements ● 10+ years of experience working as a software engineer in backend systems. ● Expertise in designing, delivering, extending, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems. ● Love to design systems that are elegant abstractions over complex patterns/practices ● Proven proficiency in one of Node.js, or TypeScript. As well as SQL, and cloud platforms such as GCP, or AWS. ● Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and database systems. ● Proven ability to lead technical projects and drive architectural decisions. ● Experience mentoring and growing engineers of all levels Preferred qualifications ● You have extensive experience working with financial systems. ● You think of yourself as entrepreneurial and enjoy moving quickly. ● You hold yourself and others to a high bar. ● You enjoy working with a diverse group of people with different expertise. ● In-depth knowledge of the following technologies: Javascript, Node.js, TypeScript, HTTP, Pub/Sub, SQS, PostgreSQL; ● In-depth understanding of Web API standards such as REST, and GraphQL ;
