Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Staff Geologist or Field Scientist to support our team of professionals on environmental site assessment and remediation projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of a Senior Geologist or Project Director, the Staff Geologist or Field Scientist will:

• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously with adherence to the approved scope, budget and schedule.
• Communicate daily with the project team and clients as needed.
• Assist with the implementation of complex site assessment and remediation projects with multi-person project teams.
• Perform pre-field preparation for on-site projects including development of health and safety documents, coordinating with subcontractors, procuring field supplies, and obtaining permits.
• Conduct fieldwork (about 70% work) in variable conditions. Responsibilities include leading tailgate health and safety meetings, coordinating utility clearance, supervising drilling activities, preparation of soil boring, groundwater monitoring, and soil vapor well construction logs, collection of soil, soil vapor, and groundwater samples, and preparing daily field reports.
• Support environmental and other related site assessment and remediation projects in the office by providing data management, interpretation, and technical assistance.
• Support quality control programs by conducting quality assurance and quality control reviews of fieldwork programs and reports/work product deliverables.
• Prepare technical reports presenting key findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Assist the Project Manager (PM) in the management of multiple projects to complete work within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
• Develop a working understanding of Stantec’s other consulting practice areas and eventually support cross-selling services to existing clients.
• Assist with the development, tracking, updates, forecasting and modification of project schedules and budgets throughout all project phases.
• Assist the PM with the review and tracking of project-related invoices from contractors, other consultants, and equipment vendors.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• This position combines office and fieldwork. Field assignments may include exposure to the elements and other challenging environmental conditions.
• Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work on site assessment, remediation, and other related environmental projects up to 10 hours per day and often under adverse environmental conditions.
• Ability to develop knowledge and experience in applying regulatory and safety requirements.
• Ability to develop experience in implementing and managing site assessment and remediation fieldwork programs.
• Willing and able to travel and work approximately 70% in the field and 30% in the office, primarily in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
• Ability to develop excellent client relationship and communication skills to implement and coordinate fieldwork programs.
• Team player with experience supporting a team of Project Managers and multidisciplinary Support Staff.
• Excellent technical writing, analytical and problem-solving skills, and “people” skills.
• Ability to develop excellent knowledge of the local regulatory climate, and experience in the completion of site assessment and remediation projects with state and local regulatory oversight.
• OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour certification preferred.
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
• Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical exam.

Education and Experience

• BS and/or MS in Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
• Professional registration or license, or interest in obtaining professional licensure is a plus.
• 3 years of relevant experience in site investigation, remediation, or environmental consulting, preferred.
• Familiarity with working on construction sites in close proximity to heavy earthmoving equipment is a plus.
• Knowledge or experience with GIS data collection applications such as Esri Field Maps and Survey 123.
