At TaxDome, we're building the leading practice management platform for accounting firms in the US and worldwide. Founded in 2017, we focus on a single web-based B2B2C SaaS platform used by tens of thousands of accounting firms and, through them, millions of end clients. Engineering is entirely in-house — no outsourcing or agencies; we build and own everything we ship — with about 150 engineers within a 400+ person, fully remote team across 40+ countries. We are profitable and bootstrapped, so we set our own roadmap and build for the long term.

You'll be part of a globally distributed team built on trust, ownership, and self-management.
We focus on outcomes over activity — prioritizing clear ownership, pragmatic decision-making, and accountability for results over rigid processes. Collaboration is central to how we operate: we communicate openly, involve the right people early, and continuously improve how we build products and teams together.
It's a fully remote role, we are hiring across the EU, with a preference for candidates working within CET (±3 hours).

About this role

We're looking for a Staff-level product engineer to own a product domain. This is an individual contributor role — no direct reports — but the scope of responsibility is company-level: you are the person accountable for the technical direction of your domain across the whole company, not just inside one team.
At its core this is a strong backend engineering role — but one where you also shape the product, not just build it.
It’s a fully remote role, and we are hiring across European timezones.
This role is probably not for you if

• Your production experience is mostly greenfield work you built alone - we need someone who has designed inside other people's constraints.
• You've never been on the receiving end of your own design decisions: no migrations on live data, no incidents you caused and then fixed structurally.
• You've never had to say no to a model. If LLM output goes straight to a write path in your work, this domain will hurt.
• You want architectural authority without carrying delivery. Here they're the same job.

What you'll be responsible for

• Architecture and technical direction. You own the architecture of your domain and the technical decisions inside it, judged on a horizon of years rather than sprints. You partner with the PM from discovery, so technical direction is set while the problem is still being framed — not inherited from a finished spec.
• Delivery and stability. Whatever ships in your domain, you are the person accountable: that it arrives, that it works, and that it holds up afterwards.
• Scope and staffing. You decompose the work into stages that can ship on their own, decide their sequence, and pull in the engineers each stage needs. Clearing blockers before they turn into delays is part of the job, not an escalation.
• The speed of the feedback loop. You own how quickly your domain gets from idea to real users and back — MVP out, feedback in, next iteration shipped. AI is a tool in that loop: use it where it genuinely accelerates you, and stay accountable for what ships.
• The boundaries of your domain. You own the contracts it exposes and the dependencies it takes on, negotiated with neighbouring domains rather than declared at them. How easy your domain is to build against is your result, not theirs.
• The engineers around you. Through design reviews, pairing, and direct feedback, you raise the level at which engineers in your domain reason about architecture, trade-offs, and ownership. You're not their manager — you're their technical bar.
• The engineering standards in your domain. You apply the company's standards and own them where your domain is concerned: when they don't fit or fall short, proposing the change and driving its adoption is the role, not an extra.

What you bring

Engineering foundation (the core bar)

• 8+ years building software, including 3+ years owning a production system other people depended on- real users, and real money or legal consequence attached to its correctness.
  • You've changed the data model of a live system under load. You can walk through the migration path, what could have corrupted, and the point past which rollback stopped being an option.
  • You've operated what you built. You've been paged for your own code and can name a structural change you made afterward so it wouldn't recur.
• Deep backend experience, running cloud-native
• Distributed systems in production — you've debugged consistency, idempotency, and partial failure yourself
• Multi-tenant SaaS at scale: tenancy isolation, long-running workflow state, data integrity
• Strategic and tactical DDD applied on a real codebase, and taught to other engineers
• Clear judgment on where AI helps and where to fall back on your own reasoning
• Fluent written and spoken English — your PM and your engineers are in different countries

Nice to have

• Staff or architect level ownership of a domain maintained by 2–4 teams
• AWS architecture at scale, or equivalent depth in another cloud
• Ruby on Rails or Python in production, strong frontend (React/TypeScript), or readiness to work across the stack when your domain needs it
• Practical experience making coding agents effective on production codebases through spec-driven workflows, verification harnesses, and reusable scaffolding.
