We are oOh!media (pronounced “oh!” media).
oOh!media is the #1 Out of Home company in Australia and New Zealand.
We exist to make public spaces better and brands unmissable, proudly leading the market with innovation, creativity, data and results. Our network creates engaging environments that inform, entertain and inspire, while connecting brands with audiences at scale.
We have a unique culture, purpose and values that shape how we show up every day. Win as One. Hungry. Always. Own It.
About the opportunity:
- Full-time, permanent position based in Sydney, with four days per week in the office
- A senior individual contributor role with genuine ownership of a core commercial technology domain
- Lead architecture and production health while remaining hands-on with event-driven, serverless AWS systems built primarily in Golang and Node.js
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to become the technical owner of a core commercial domain that manages inventory availability and campaign scheduling across our national network. These high-throughput systems support how our sales teams plan, quote and schedule campaigns and integrate with external partners.
This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex backend problems and setting the technical standard for others. You will balance hands-on delivery with architecture, guidance and technical leadership, partnering closely with the Engineering Manager, delivery, analysis, architecture and business stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Own the sub domain’s technical strategy, architecture and technology roadmap, in alignment with the wider architectural and engineering leadership.
- Deliver complex, high-leverage backend engineering work and establish patterns that others can confidently build on.
- Design for correctness, data integrity and performance in high-throughput, concurrent systems.
- Establish end-to-end observability, including distributed tracing, SLIs and SLOs for critical paths.
- Lead platform modernisation, including the evolution, migration and decommissioning of existing services.
- Mature CI/CD with automated testing at multiple levels, production safety and reliable rollback.
- Lead design reviews and PR reviews, and mentor engineers through practical, hands-on technical leadership.
- Provide the technical input behind delivery commitments and represent engineering in domain discussions.
- Champion effective, secure use of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity and quality.
- Prioritise simple, pragmatic solutions that balance business value, technical constraints and future needs.
What you’ll bring:
- Proven Staff or strong Senior-level backend engineering experience, with production depth in ideally Golang or Node.js.
- Hands-on experience building and operating event-driven, serverless systems on AWS, including Lambda, SQS, SNS and EventBridge.
- A track record of protecting data integrity in high-throughput and concurrent systems.
- Strong observability and reliability practice, including distributed tracing and defining meaningful SLIs and SLOs.
- Demonstrated technical leadership without relying on line authority, through mentoring, design reviews and engineering standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management across technical and commercial audiences.
- Experience with databases such as DynamoDB or Aurora DSQL; CI/CD, config as code, contract and integration testing; and infrastructure as code such as AWS CDK.
- Experience modernising legacy services and applying AI-native engineering practices to improve developer productivity.
- AdTech, inventory management or scheduling domain experience is desirable, but not essential.
Benefits and perks:
- Modern offices with great amenities and easy transport access.
- Competitive salary and bonus opportunities.
- Career development and learning opportunities to support your growth.
- Generous parental leave and wellbeing support, including EAP access via Sonder.
- Regular team events, social activities and recognition programs.
- Wellness initiatives and discounts to support your health and lifestyle.
- The opportunity to shape technology that supports one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading Out of Home networks.
If you are a hands-on technical leader who enjoys owning complex systems, raising engineering standards and helping teams do their best work, we would love to hear from you.
