Role: Staff Tax Accountant
Contract: Full-time Remote Contractor (40 hours weekly / 160 hours monthly)
Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM MST (service hours flexible during this time)
Rate: $2,500 - $3,000 USD monthly / $30,000 - $36,000 USD annually (salary is negotiable based on experience and location)

What You'll Do
As a Staff Tax Accountant, your role is essential in supporting the preparation of a meaningful range of tax returns alongside senior preparers and reviewers. Success in this position means taking on more complex work in a supportive, well-mentored environment while continuing to grow your skills and independence. This role is ideal for someone with a few years of tax preparation experience who is ready to advance their career and work toward a future Tax Manager position. Your responsibilities will include:
Individual Return Preparation:
- Prepare individual returns (Form 1040), ranging from straightforward W-2 returns to returns with rental property, self-employment, and multi-state filings.
- Prepare and document 1040 returns independently, ensuring Schedules A, B, C, D, and E are meticulously completed.
- Assist on complex multi-entity engagements under the supervision of senior staff.
Entity Return Preparation:
- Prepare straightforward entity returns, including S-corp (1120-S) and partnership (1065) returns.
Client & Team Support:
- Help respond to client document requests and follow up on missing information.
- Calculate quarterly estimated tax payments for assigned clients.
- Coordinate diligently with internal team members, showing a strong willingness to learn repeatable processes and standard ways of doing things quickly.
Workflow & Documentation:
- Use TaxDome for workflow, communication, and detailed documentation.
- Participate actively in team training, continued study time for credentials, and continuing education.
What You Should Have
Must-haves:
- Minimum of two years of experience with US-based accounting firms, focusing on tax preparation.
- At least one year of experience in a global remote setup with a company based in North America, Europe, Australia, or the UAE.
- Strong functional knowledge of individual federal tax law, solid basic business returns, and basic Chart of Accounts structures.
- Excellent English verbal and written skills for clear, professional communication.
- Deep working knowledge and proven experience preparing 1040 returns independently, including Schedules A, B, C, D, and E.
- Interest in growing into senior-level work over the next 2 to 4 years.
- Proficiency with professional tax preparation software and Advanced Microsoft Office 365 or Google Workspace experience.
- Has a driver mindset, showing reliable work habits and strong ownership of assigned files and complex challenges.
- Comfortable working in a remote environment and using collaboration tools like Slack or Microsoft Teams.

Nice-to-haves:
- Progress toward CPA, EA, or other tax credentials (we will support continued study, including credential study time).
- Direct experience with TaxDome or similar practice management platforms.
- Multi-state tax experience and/or a strong history of multi-entity client structural coordination.
