Description

At Ledgebrook, we’re building a next-generation insurance infrastructure — fast, smart, and scalable — and are looking for a Director of Finance who can build Stonehaven’s finance and accounting infrastructure from the ground up to support the launch of Ledgebrook’s new third-party hybrid fronting carrier, Stonehaven Specialty Insurance Company.

This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the Stonehaven Operations and Claims team on bordereaux review and approval, and with Ledgebrook’s parent finance team as needed.

About the Role

Stonehaven is seeking a Director of Finance to build and own its finance and accounting infrastructure, turning third-party bordereaux data into trustworthy financials and a per-program economic picture. This role requires deep P&C statutory and GAAP accounting expertise, reinsurance accounting experience, and comfort standing up finance infrastructure at a new or early-stage carrier.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish the chart of accounts, GL, and month-end close process aligned to the NAIC Annual Statement from inception.
  • Participate in due diligence on prospective MGA and program partners, assessing financial strength, premium handling and trust account practices, and the quality of their bordereaux and financial reporting.
  • Review and approve incoming MGA and TPA bordereaux jointly with the Stonehaven Operations and Claims team before Shared Services posts them to the ledger.
  • Own the integrity of financial data flowing between Stonehaven and its MGA, TPA and reinsurance partners, with transaction processing (GL entries, AR/AP, cash and bank reconciliations) performed by Shared Services under this role’s oversight.
  • Ensure statutory (STAT) accounting and reporting are accurate, timely and compliant with NAIC requirements.
  • Own bordereaux-driven premium and loss accounting, reconciled to cash, ledger, and cessions with support from operations and technology resources.
  • Own reinsurance accounting: ceding commissions, recoverables, funds withheld, Schedule F, risk-transfer testing support.
  • Own fronting-fee revenue recognition and per-program economics reporting.
  • Establish capital-management practices reflecting reinsurance credit risk and the claims-pay-then-recover liquidity buffer; maintain the cash-flow model.
  • Support the Reserve Committee, the Audit Committee and the ORSA process.

About you

Here at Ledgebrook, we are passionate about creating a team that is on a continuous learning journey and that shares our excitement about building a company from the ground up. Some of the characteristics we hold dear are:

  • A passion to deliver world-class customer service experience to both internal and external customers.
  • Intellectual curiosity and desire to innovate processes/procedures versus being satisfied with the status quo.
  • A desire to continue learning through on-the-job mentorship or formal educational/training opportunities.
  • Agile prioritization skills coupled with a keen sense of urgency that seeks to balance getting it right versus getting it done right now.
  • A strong drive and desire to win together as a high-performing team.
  • A moral compass to “do the right thing, period”, with zero tolerance for toxic behaviors.

Requirements

Need to Have

  • 10+ years in P&C insurance finance/accounting, including STAT and GAAP dual-basis reporting.
  • Direct experience with reinsurance accounting (ceded premium, recoverables, Schedule F).
  • Background in Delegated Underwriting Authority programs, whether at a program administrator or on the carrier side.

Nice To Have

  • CPA with P&C statutory accounting expertise.
  • Fronting or program-carrier finance experience, where bordereaux-driven accounting is the norm.
  • Experience standing up finance infrastructure at a new or early-stage carrier.
  • Rating-agency relationship experience (AM Best BCAR submissions specifically).

Benefits

  • Full remote flexibility and asynchronous work culture.
  • Unlimited PTO and fully paid sick leave.
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus HSA and FSA options.
  • Additional financial protection and retirement benefits, including a 401(k), company-paid life insurance, and disability coverage

Compensation

  • Base Salary Range $200,000 - 300,000- This is a good-faith compensation range based on what Ledgebrook reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a variety of relevant factors including experience, qualifications, geographic location and other relevant factors.
  • Employees in this position are eligible to participate in Ledgebrook’s equity incentive program.
