The Role

As Sharon AI continues to grow, we're looking for a talented Storage Architect to join our Infrastructure team and play a senior technical role in defining, evolving and governing our storage architecture, reporting to our VP of Infrastructure.

In this role, the Storage Architect will own storage strategy across the complete data lifecycle, from ultra-high-performance storage supporting GPU training, inference, checkpointing and AI data pipelines, through to capacity-oriented warm tiers, object storage, backup, archive and tape-based cold storage. You'll bring deep architectural and practical experience with VAST Data and/or WEKA, working closely with our architecture, platform, product, security, procurement, delivery and operations teams to build storage architectures that scale from multi-petabyte deployments towards exabyte-class environments.

What You'll Be Doing

• Own the end-to-end technical strategy and reference architectures for storage across Sharon AI, covering hot/performance, warm/capacity, cold/archive and tape storage, backup, data protection and data lifecycle
• Develop an architecture capable of scaling from petabytes to hundreds-of-petabytes and ultimately exabyte-scale environments
• Establish clear criteria for when data should reside on flash, capacity disk, object storage, archive storage or tape
• Define storage building blocks and scalable units that can be composed into different cluster sizes and customer solutions
• Act as the senior technical authority for high-performance storage supporting large-scale GPU infrastructure
• Ensure the storage architecture does not become a limiting factor to GPU utilisation
• Define economical warm/capacity storage tiers and architect policy-driven movement between performance and capacity tiers
• Define Sharon AI's S3-compatible object storage strategy and own the architecture for long-term cold and archival storage
• Maintain technology roadmaps covering storage hardware, software, media generations and networking requirements
• Support Infrastructure-as-Code approaches, reducing reliance on manual storage administration as fleet scale increases

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years in enterprise storage, cloud infrastructure, or HPC architecture, including 7+ years leading storage architecture for large-scale distributed environments
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
• Expert-level storage architecture knowledge and large-scale distributed storage design
• Deep understanding of flash, NVMe, HDD and tape technologies
• Strong understanding of GPU clusters, AI training pipelines, dataset management, high-performance networking, RDMA, InfiniBand and NVIDIA reference architectures
• Demonstrated ownership of technology roadmaps, product strategies and cross-functional architectural governance
• Ability to communicate effectively with executives, customers, engineers, vendors, product and delivery teams
• Commercially aware, able to balance performance, cost, operational complexity, time to deploy, standardisation and vendor lock-in

Nice to have:

• Demonstrated production experience with VAST Data at multi-petabyte scale
• Experience supporting NVIDIA AI reference architectures and large GPU clusters (1k+ GPUs preferred)
• Experience with distributed checkpointing
• Experience designing storage platforms that integrate with Kubernetes, GPU schedulers, multi-tenant environments and observability platforms
• Experience in technical business case development and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) modelling
