Strategic Buyer – Maternity Cover

Location: Irlam or Bath

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Contract: Full-time, fixed-term maternity cover (up to 12 months)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and commercially driven Strategic Buyer to join the Freedom Truespeed Group on a full-time maternity cover contract of up to 12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to play a key role in supporting and delivering our procurement and supply chain strategy. You'll be responsible for developing strong supplier relationships, leading commercial negotiations, identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring the business achieves the best possible value across its purchasing categories.

Working closely with teams across the Group, including Engineering, Technical, Design, Legal and Warehouse Management, you'll help ensure our supply chain runs efficiently and supports the wider business.

The role offers plenty of variety, combining strategic procurement, supplier management, contract negotiations and stock management. You'll also act as the go-to person for the procurement and stock management elements of our Sage system, supporting colleagues and keeping up to date with system developments.

What You'll Be Doing

• Researching supplier markets and identifying new sourcing opportunities to ensure we work with the right suppliers.

• Leading tendering and competitive bidding processes, from supplier selection through to onboarding.

• Managing supplier relationships and leading commercial negotiations to secure competitive pricing and favourable contract terms.

• Working with internal teams to identify opportunities for cost savings, improved efficiencies and better value.

• Supporting Engineering and Design teams with early supplier engagement and the introduction of new products.

• Working closely with Warehouse Management to oversee third-party warehousing and logistics arrangements and ensure stock levels meet business requirements.

• Supporting stock rationalisation alongside Engineering teams.

• Taking ownership of the procurement and stock elements of Sage, keeping up to date with Sage and Sicon developments and supporting colleagues where needed.

About You:

We're looking for someone who is commercially minded, confident and proactive, with a genuine passion for procurement and getting the best results for the business.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Significant experience in procurement, supply chain or contract management, preferably within the telecommunications sector.

• Strong commercial awareness and excellent negotiation skills.

• Good mathematical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• The confidence to build relationships, influence stakeholders and manage supplier partnerships.

• A positive, ambitious and driven approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
