Strategic Coach
National Painting Group · Fort Collins, CO · Full-Time (Hybrid)
I'm Eric, co-founder of National Painting Group, and we hire TOP performers.
You love business. You love coaching business owners. The most fulfilling thing for you is seeing the success of the people you coach and guide.
Here, you have a robust system behind you so you can do what you do best: 1:1 work with values aligned business owners, empowering them, developing them and guiding them to becoming who they are and unlocking their potential.
We already have a proven model, a real support system behind you, and partners you can walk alongside for years, with people you respect, doing work that adds to your life instead of draining it.
We have the playbooks, the partners and the growth. We need the coach who keeps every one of those companies on track. We're hoping that's you.
Keep reading if…
- You love to coach. Pouring into people, motivating them and watching them win is what you'd do even if no one paid you.
- You can read a P&L and know what it's telling you, and you can turn the numbers into a plan an owner will follow.
- You're comfortable with hard conversations. When a business starts to drift, you say so early and help get it back on track.
- You've run operations yourself, and now you'd rather build through people than do it all yourself.
- You're grounded, settled in yourself, and highly organized.
- You're obsessed with your own coaching, training and development (it’s the source of what you can contribute to others).
- You're ambitious, financially and in life. You have big goals and you're going after them.
- You want your work to add to your life, not take from it.
- You want to love where you work: the work itself, the people, and what the company stands for.
- You want to be empowered and given room to perform, because you love to perform.
Still with me?
What it's like to work here
Autonomy. We're all adults, we're high performers, and we all have a job to do. We trust each other to do our jobs, and you won't be micromanaged. This is a culture of universal accountability, not hierarchy. We are accountable individually and collectively.
High performance. When you work here, you're surrounded by high performers, and we expect the same from you.
Investment in your development. We produce exceptional results by investing heavily in our people through ongoing internal training and development. It goes beyond training you in your role: it develops you as someone who creates and fulfills intentions, and it shows up in your entire life.
Performance, not hours. We believe your work should add to your life, not take from it. We don't do hustle culture or 60-hour workweeks. You can perform at a high level without sacrificing your personal life, and we've found that's exactly what unlocks performance.
Clarity of intention & alignment. Everyone you work with is clear on the objective, how we operate, where we're going, and the future we're committed to.
Strategy & patience. We have a clear plan, and we don't take shortcuts. Impeccable, thoughtful work is the source of our increasingly rapid growth.
About National Painting Group
We're a family of companies. National Painting Group partners with and co-owns 15 painting companies across the country. Our model companies, Foothills Painting and Elk Horn Painting (Inc. 5000 in 2024 and 2025), are where every playbook is proven before it reaches a partner. Painting Business Pro has coached 3,000+ painting company owners since 2013, and many of our partners come from that community.
Most painting contractors are excellent at the craft and were never taught the business. We've spent more than a decade building those systems inside our own companies. Strategic coaches are how our partners get the most out of those systems and our entire support infrastructure. .
Our ultimate intention is: Discover what's possible and joyously make it happen. We're here to help our people build a wildly successful and fulfilling career, and we're at the inflection point of significant growth. That's why we need you.
The Big Picture
Painting Business Pro is the largest and longest-running coaching program for painting contractors, with over 500 active members. We've grown that business by 500% over the last three years, and we expect that trend to continue for the next three years.
National Painting Group is our portfolio of painting companies, where we buy a minority stake in painting companies, grow them, and then help the partner ultimately exit, where we take over a majority stake of the business. We currently have 15 painting companies in our portfolio, 8 more in due diligence, and we expect to bring on 1 to 2 new partners every month in 2027… and grow from there
But we also have plans beyond the painting industry. A lot of our core competencies, what makes us unique, and what we're building apply to business far beyond the painting industry.
Strategic coaches are at the center of that growth. Every partner you coach is a company we're building toward a successful exit for them and acquisition for us.
The Role
This is a coaching role. You'll be the point person for a handful of our partner companies, working directly with the partners and operators who run them. You'll keep each company moving forward on our partner success roadmap, catch drift before it becomes a problem, and connect partners with the training, events, experts and support we provide. Your scoreboard is simple: the success of the companies you coach.
You'll be the person:
- Coaching our partners. Meet with your partners every week to keep them on track, make sure they use every resource we offer, and work through the hard things with them. You're their coach, their guide and the person looking out for them.
- Owning the numbers. Review statistics, business plans and financials, and audit each company so your attention is on the right things. Every company you coach has accurate numbers, accurate CRM data and accurate financials, and you know what's happening there better than anyone.
- Aligning with our team. Work with the NPG team on how we operate, how we think and how we coach, and invest in your own development.
- Keeping companies on the roadmap. Our partners follow our prebuilt partner success roadmap one step at a time and hit their targets week over week and month over month: gross margin, net margin, sales, production and team building.
- Building the role with us. Help shape the workflows and processes we use to support, train and develop partners, and master the playbooks we use to build and scale companies.
Your first 90 days are for learning: our culture, our playbooks, shadowing our partner success team and getting to know your first partners. By day 90 you'll take direct accountability for 15 partners, and by month 12 you'll be the point person for about 20 companies. We're going to need more strategic coaches, and the right person can build out this role and hire and train the coaches who follow.
About You
- You've coached or consulted business owners, and you can show what changed for them.
- You understand business financials: P&L statements, margins and business plans.
- You have a background in operations and understand how a company runs at a high level.
- You're highly organized and can keep 15 to 20 companies moving at once without anything slipping.
- You're grounded and settled in yourself, comfortable with difficult conversations, and steady when things get hard.
- You love entrepreneurship, and you believe people are the heart of a business.
- You invest in your own coaching, training and development, and a lot of your motivation and belief in people comes from your own direct experience.
Nice to have: EOS experience (as an implementer, or running a company on EOS)... or something similar. We don’t run EOS, but the principles of methodical, step by step growth are critical.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $175,000–$200,000, depending on experience and track record. [Confirm base vs. total compensation]
- Performance bonus tied to the performance of the companies you coach. Year #1 Targets $15-$25k
- A package that grows with you. Your compensation can grow over the years with the performance of the companies you coach, with the opportunity to share in profit down the road.
- Health insurance: We offer variable Medical, Dental, Vision programs, and contribute up to $400 p/month towards your selection.
- Unlimited PTO. You read that right. Unlimited. We hire high-accountability folks and top performers; you balance your time, and we encourage you to take the time you need, when you need it. You need to perform your role, hit your benchmarks, and you can work when you want as long as you’re getting your job done and performing at a high level.
- Training & Development: We invest in you. Our first-in-class training & development programs foster personal & professional growth, and you'll have an all-access pass.
- The real benefit: a balanced work culture where you do meaningful work with people you respect and do the one thing you love most, coaching business owners, without the sacrifice a role like this usually demands.
Location: Hybrid, based out of Fort Collins, CO. You'll be in person in Fort Collins 1 to 6 days a month for time with our team, training and events, and work remotely the rest of the time. This is a full-time role and your sole focus.
How to Apply
Please submit all three:
- Your resume
- A short cover letter: why National Painting Group, and why this role
- A 1–2 minute video: you, on camera, telling us why you'd be a great fit
For a coach, that video is also a work sample: show us how you connect with people. We won't consider applications without all three.
If you have trouble uploading any of these, email them to [careers@nationalpaintinggroup.com — confirm address].
What to Expect After You Apply
This is an important role, and we're highly selective. Because we expect a lot of interest, we'll only reach out to the candidates we're moving forward with.
Your first step is a phone conversation with Vivian, who leads talent for our organization. Strong candidates then record short video answers to three questions about the role. From there, strong candidates move to a conversation with me, including a walk through our company, mission, vision, values, and how we work… And then through the rest of our process, which includes meeting several members of our team (we've found that to be one of the most important steps).
We move fast, because speed matters with the right people. If we're moving forward, you'll hear from us within 24 hours. If you don't, it means we didn't see the right fit this time, and we wish you the best in your search.
