Strategic Communications Specialist
At Slater and Gordon, purpose and progress go hand in hand. We're a place for people who want to do meaningful work and make a real impact.
For more than 90 years, we've stood beside people taking on systems, institutions and opponents far bigger than themselves. As a leading personal injury and class actions firm, we use the law to open up access to justice and fight for what's fair, because justice matters.
This isn't a place for standing still. It's a place to do great work, grow your capabilities and be part of something bigger than yourself.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Strategic Communications Specialist to join our Corporate Affairs team in Melbourne.
Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications & Campaigns, you will help translate Slater and Gordon's strategy and priorities into clear narrative, messaging and content. You will lead communications and engagement for the firm's transformation and change program, while contributing executive narrative, speaking notes and key messages for major moments such as the monthly all-staff town hall.
You will work across the organisation with senior leaders, the Internal Communications Manager, Change Leads, program teams and business stakeholders. You will also contribute to external campaigns, advocacy and thought leadership, as required.
Why join us
We offer accessible, world-class legal services to people from all backgrounds and socioeconomic circumstances, simplifying the legal process and supporting clients at every step.
Here, you will work in a professional but human culture where support, collaboration and meaningful impact are part of how things get done. You will have the opportunity to:
- Shape how our people understand the firm's strategy, priorities and transformation journey.
- Lead communications and engagement for significant change initiatives.
- Support senior leaders to communicate with clarity, purpose and impact.
- Turn complex or sensitive information into practical messages, tools and content.
- Use audience insight, feedback and engagement data to improve communications.
- Explore how AI-enabled tools can support more effective and efficient content development.
Our commitment to offering a progressive career includes:
- Genuine hybrid working and flexibility to support different life stages and needs.
- Structured learning and professional development.
- Recognition of high performance, including clear progression pathways.
- Outstanding benefits including paid shutdown leave, 26 weeks of paid parental leave, additional long service leave, and ongoing wellbeing and development initiatives.
What we are looking for
You are someone who:
- Can translate strategy and organisational priorities into clear, audience-appropriate narrative.
- Is an excellent writer and communicator, comfortable working with senior leaders.
- Can make complex, technical or sensitive information clear and practical.
- Builds trust and strong relationships across a complex organisation.
- Uses data, feedback and audience insight to guide communication choices.
- Brings sound judgement when managing confidential or reputationally significant matters.
- Is comfortable moving between strategic thinking and hands-on delivery.
- Can bring structure and clarity to ambiguous or fast-moving change environments.
- Is curious about AI and emerging technology and how they can improve communications effectiveness.
What you will bring
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications or a related discipline.
- Five to seven years' experience delivering internal, strategic or change communications in a complex, change-heavy environment.
- Experience developing executive communications, speaking notes, key messages or presentations.
- Experience supporting transformation, system implementation or process redesign programs, ideally in a regulated, professional services or legal environment.
- Experience measuring communication and engagement effectiveness.
- Working knowledge of content and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, Miro, Articulate, SharePoint, Teams or Viva.
- A collaborative approach and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders, change teams and program teams. ⁽¹⁾
