About the role

Do you enjoy solving complex problems, challenging assumptions and using data to influence major strategic decisions?

We're looking for a Strategic Modelling Specialist to join our Networks Strategy & Futures team, where you'll help shape the future direction of BT's network investments and long-term strategy.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data, technology, strategy and commercial decision-making. You'll develop sophisticated models, analyse complex datasets and turn evidence into recommendations that help determine where and how BT invests in its networks over the next 2-10 years.

Working across some of BT's most strategically important programmes, you'll provide the insight needed to evaluate future technologies, optimise network performance, assess investment choices and support business cases that influence senior leaders across the organisation.

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys tackling difficult questions and can combine analytical rigour with commercial thinking. In return, you'll have the opportunity to work on highly visible projects, collaborate with experts across BT and contribute to decisions that impact millions of customers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Building strategic, techno-economic and investment models to support key network and business decisions.
  • Analysing large and complex datasets to identify trends, opportunities, risks and strategic recommendations.
  • Supporting the development of BT's medium and long-term network strategy through evidence-based analysis.
  • Evaluating future network architectures and technologies through scenario and sensitivity modelling.
  • Assessing network optimisation opportunities, investment decisions and performance trade-offs.
  • Developing models that support decisions on areas such as network rollout, spectrum strategy, capacity planning and business investment.
  • Producing clear, compelling and executive-ready outputs that enable senior leaders to make informed decisions.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across Networks, Finance, Strategy and customer-facing business units to align priorities and plans.
  • Continuously evolving modelling tools, techniques and approaches to improve strategic planning capabilities.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Experience developing strategic, financial, operational or techno-economic models that have been used to inform investment decisions, business planning or long-term strategy.
  • Strong capability in SQL, Python or similar programming languages, with experience building analytical tools, automating analysis and working with large, complex datasets to generate insight.
  • Proven ability to take ambiguous or complex business challenges, structure them into analytical problems and produce evidence-based recommendations that influence decision-making.
  • Experience translating highly technical, financial or data-driven findings into clear, concise narratives and recommendations for senior stakeholders and business leaders.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Telecommunications, technology, infrastructure, utilities or engineering sector experience.
  • Knowledge of network planning, network optimisation, capacity management or performance modelling.
  • Experience developing business cases, investment proposals or strategic planning recommendations.
  • Understanding of fixed, mobile, IP, access or core network technologies.
  • Experience with forecasting, scenario modelling and long-term strategic planning.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based analytical environments and modern data platforms.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools, advanced analytics or automation techniques.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working across diverse teams and business functions.
  • Ability to influence, challenge constructively and build alignment across a complex organisation.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how strategic decisions translate into business outcomes.
  • Experience working within cross-functional and multi-location teams.
