This position reports to:

Head Strategy & Business Development

Join ABB in shaping the future of industrial electrification and sustainable process industries. In this strategic role, you will evaluate emerging technologies, assess market opportunities, and support portfolio decisions that drive innovation across industries such as Mining, Metals, and Pulp & Paper. Working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, you will provide technology insights, business case analyses, and strategic recommendations that influence ABB's long-term growth and technology roadmap.

Working model: LI-Hybrid

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Monitor and assess emerging technologies in power electronics and industrial electrification, with a focus on Mining, Metals, and Pulp & Paper applications, including process electrification, process heating, power quality solutions, energy storage systems, and grid integration.
  • Drive technology and portfolio assessments by supporting ABB's aluminum converter technology roadmap, benchmarking existing rectifier technologies against next-generation wide-bandgap semiconductor solutions and identifying opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
  • Develop business cases and analytical insights for technology investments and new offerings, translating market trends, regulatory developments, and policy signals into actionable business opportunities while maintaining and enhancing technology assessment tools, including Excel-based frameworks and Python applications with AI-assisted reporting capabilities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership through executive-level presentations and portfolio assessments, collaborating closely with R&D, Product Management, Business Development teams, and external partners to guide technology, product, and investment decisions across multiple business units.

What we are looking for:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Microfabrication, or a related technical field; a PhD is strongly preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in technology strategy, corporate strategy, innovation management, business analysis, or a related field, ideally complemented by entrepreneurial exposure within industrial automation or process industries.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in process automation, with a strong understanding of industrial applications and operational challenges across process industries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with hands-on proficiency in Python (including AI-assisted development and "vibe coding"), advanced Excel modelling, and AI-enabled analytical workflows.
  • Experience in market analysis, financial modelling, and business case development, including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) evaluations and strategic planning for the Recycling, Mining, Metals, and Pulp & Paper sectors.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business insights and develop executive-level recommendations and decision-making materials.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across R&D, Product Management, Business Development, senior leadership, and external partners; familiarity with microfabrication and semiconductor manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
