Title: Student Assistant
VP Area: Academic Affairs
Department: College of Great Lakes Ecology & Education
Published Salary Range: $16.00/hour
Job Summary/Basic Function:
About the Project
Rooted in Place is a two-year, IMLS-funded project that builds archival literacy into LSSU's teacher preparation curriculum, in partnership with public libraries, historical societies, and tribal cultural centers across the eastern Upper Peninsula. Year 1 is the research and development phase.
What You'll Do
The Student Assistant supports the project's research and prepares materials. Responsibilities include:
*Searching finding aids, catalogs, and digital collections, and entering what you find into the project's archival inventory
*Compiling contact and holdings records for repositories across the eastern Upper Peninsula
*Retrieving published sources and maintaining an annotated bibliography
*Assembling and formatting course materials from drafts supplied by the Project Director and checking links, citations, and permissions
*Organizing project files, digital photographs, and site visit documentation
*Accompanying the Project Director or Coordinator on selected site visits as your schedule allows
This is a research support role. Curriculum design is the Project Director's responsibility, and the position involves no contact with identifiable candidate data and no independent representation of the project to partners.
Additional Details
A mix of on-campus and remote work, scheduled around your classes. The workload is heaviest in fall during the archival inventory, then shifts to materials preparation in winter and spring. The position ends in April 2027.
The job offers direct experience with archival research and federally funded project work —useful preparation for graduate study or careers in teaching, libraries, museums, and cultural heritage.
