In this position...

As a Studio Design Engineer, you will work with many team members to make the design vision a reality. From developing initial engineering concepts for a new design concept, guiding, and integrating multiple engineering and manufacturing inputs into the A surface, providing alternatives proposals that enable new ways of reconciling functional requirements and thematic intent, to building a suitable physical model that makes the concept and reality.

This role is hybrid in office 4 days/week in Long Beach, CA.

What you'll do...

  • Lead Studio property set up, and integrity including content, data pedigree, ride height, manikin drop and overall suitability
  • Lead completion of studies within Design Feasibility FC Process from FC0 to K6, including completion of the Design Development Checklists, Hardpoints Plan, and the integration of aligned plans into surface
  • Lead the integration of A-surface with thematic, VA, functional, and attribute inputs whilst maintaining the emotive character and art in the surface
  • Guide initial theme set-up, and development through or in advance of functional, supplier, or attribute inputs
  • Develop and maintain Surface Scaffold files to enable Physical and Digital model development and theme overlay
  • Provide concept alternatives and provocations to support the reconciliation of thematic intent with functional and program assumptions
  • Lead the optimization and balancing of inputs to the studio, including consideration of 'what-might-be' to support the theme vision
  • Manage data within, into, and out of the studio

You'll have...

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Equivalent or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 3+ years of proven experience in complete vehicle layout/package, including Body and Trim
  • 1+ years of experience in Catia V5 or 3DX

Even better, you may have...

  • Strong familiarity with legislative requirements affecting the Design Feasibility process.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and presenting to decision making forums.
  • Demonstrated understanding of feasibility tools and design studio feasibility progression.
  • Strong understanding of the production processes.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above?
