Subject Matter Expert (SME) with Knowledge in Grundversorgung process in Germany

Your mission

You will be the go-to expert on Grundversorgung in Germany. You know the default-supply obligation inside out — legally, operationally and in the systems — and you’ll make sure the platform handles every part of it correctly, at scale, for German suppliers that are Grundversorger in their network areas.
You’ll sit between utility customers, product and engineering: turning regulation and real-world operating practice into clear requirements, validating what gets built, and helping client teams run Grundversorgung confidently on the platform.

What you’ll do

• Own the Grundversorgung domain end to end — Grundversorgungspflicht and Grundversorger status (§36 EnWG), Ersatzversorgung (§38 EnWG), StromGVV and GasGVV, and how they translate into day-to-day operations and system behaviour.
• Map and design the customer lifecycle for basic and substitute supply: Einzug / implicit contract start, Ersatzversorgung → Grundversorgung transitions, Lieferbeginn and Lieferende, Umzug, Kündigung, Tod / Nachlass, Leerstand, and handling of unidentified consumption.
• Drive billing and pricing correctness — Allgemeine Preise, Preisanpassungen with the required public announcement and customer notification periods, Sonderkündigungsrecht, Abschlagsplanung, Turnus- and Schlussrechnungen, and invoice content requirements (§40 ff. EnWG), including taxes, levies and Konzessionsabgabe.
• Cover dunning and disconnection — Mahnwesen, Androhung and Ankündigung of supply interruption (§19 StromGVV / GasGVV), protected-customer cases, reconnection and agreements on instalments.
• Bring market communication into the picture — how Grundversorgung interacts with GPKE / GeLi Gas, WiM and MaBiS: Anmeldung/Abmeldung, Lieferantenwechsel (incl. 24h supplier switch), Zuordnungsermächtigungen, Stammdatenänderungen, MSCONS, UTILMD, INVOIC/REMADV and exception handling via APERAK.
• Translate into product requirements — write clear process descriptions, acceptance criteria and test scenarios that engineers can build against, and review delivered functionality for regulatory and operational correctness.
• Track regulatory change — EnWG amendments, BNetzA determinations and BDEW format releases — and assess their impact on the platform and client operations before they land.
• Support client migrations — run workshops with German utilities, uncover where their current Grundversorgung practice diverges from the standard, and help design the target operating model on the platform.
• Coach and enable operations, delivery and engineering teams so Grundversorgung know-how doesn’t live in one head.

Your profile

What you’ll need

• Native German, plus strong English (most product and engineering work happens in English).
• 5+ years in the German energy supply market, with substantial hands-on time at a Grundversorger, an energy supplier operating Grundversorgung, or a platform/consultancy delivering it.
• Detailed knowledge of Grundversorgung and Ersatzversorgung — not just the rules, but how they play out operationally, including edge cases.
• Solid experience with billing, customer operations and market communication (GPKE, GeLi Gas, WiM, MaBiS, EDIFACT message types).
• Proven ability to turn complex business processes into structured requirements and to work closely with product managers and engineers.
• Confident with stakeholders at every level — from operations agents to client executives.

Nice to have

• Experience with a modern cloud-native utility platform, or with SAP IS-U / S/4HANA Utilities, Schleupen, Wilken or similar, ideally including a migration.
• Experience in digital transformation and process automation in a utility.
• Exposure to smart metering (MsbG, iMSys), §14a EnWG or dynamic tariffs.
• Python / SQL or data-analysis skills to dig into data yourself — welcome, but not required.
