Amsterdam - Holtara (Apex Group)

About Holtara

Holtara is leading the way in building effective ESG & sustainability programmes, combining expert advisory with an award-winning platform. For over 15 years, we’ve empowered investors, fund managers, and companies to leave a legacy they can genuinely be proud of. As part of the global Apex Group, our 130-strong team spans Amsterdam, London, the US, Spain, and India — united by a shared ambition to drive meaningful change.

We offer a unique combination of advisory and technology services across the investment lifecycle, helping businesses make a real impact today for a more sustainable tomorrow.

The role

This is a client-facing advisory role for a sustainability practitioner who contributes to day-to-day project delivery and takes ownership of defined workstreams. You will manage defined project workstreams, structure analyses and produce client-ready deliverables. You will contribute actively to client meetings, workshops and presentations, manage day-to-day client interactions within your workstreams, and support the effective delivery of engagements. Senior colleagues will provide direction and review on complex technical judgements and overall engagement management.

You will work primarily with financial-sector clients, with private markets GPs and LPs making up the majority of our client base, alongside a growing corporate portfolio. We are looking for a strong ESG and sustainability generalist who can work across Holtara's domains and verticals, connect different areas of expertise, and confidently contribute to translating client needs into practical solutions.

Knowledge of and experience with European sustainability regulations is an advantage. This includes, amongst others, the EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD and other relevant regulatory requirements.

What you will do

  • Conduct research, analysis and benchmarking, and translate findings into clear client deliverables.
  • Participate in client meetings and support day-to-day client communication.
  • Develop an understanding of clients’ sustainability challenges and contribute to practical, commercially relevant solutions.
  • Support project planning and coordination to ensure high-quality and timely delivery.

Sustainability & ESG Advisory

You will contribute across Holtara’s ESG and sustainability domains and verticals, including:

  • Sustainable finance
  • Carbon and climate
  • ESG due diligence
  • Value chain sustainability
  • Sustainability strategy and value creation
  • Portfolio monitoring, ESG data management and reporting
  • ESG reporting and disclosure, including SFDR, CSRD, EU Taxonomy and related regulations

Business Development & Growth

  • Support the development of proposals, pitches and other commercial materials.
  • Conduct market and prospect research to support business development activities.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identify potential opportunities based on client needs.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, events and other market-facing activities.

Team and Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Advisory and the wider Holtara team.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and proactively communicate on progress and challenges.
  • Actively seek feedback and use it to further develop your consulting and sustainability expertise.
  • Contribute to a supportive, collaborative and high-quality team culture.

What you will bring

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in (sustainability) consulting. Experience working with private equity or portfolio companies is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within international and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, curious and collaborative mindset, with a willingness to continue developing across both broader sustainability topics and regulatory advisory.
  • A solid foundation in ESG and sustainability, with an interest in developing expertise across different domains.
  • Practical experience applying European sustainability requirements in client or investment contexts is an advantage. For example, you may have experience interpreting evolving regulatory requirements, assessing their relevance and implications, and translating them into practical and proportionate actions for fund managers and portfolio companies.

Practical details

  • Location. Amsterdam / Netherlands. We value in-person collaboration, and this role is based in the office four days per week, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week.
  • Education. Degree in finance, economics, business, sustainability or a related discipline.
  • Languages. Professional fluency in Dutch and English is required; German is an advantage.

Why join Holtara

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of sustainability and consulting in private markets.
