📍 Turin or Milan; other Italian WSP offices may be considered | 🏡 Hybrid | ⏱️ Full-time
Building a sustainable future, together.
At WSP, we design the future of our communities. As one of the world’s leading engineering and professional services firms, we bring together expertise across transport and infrastructure, buildings, energy, environment, water and sustainability advisory. Across Central Europe, we combine local knowledge with international reach to deliver projects that create a positive, lasting impact for clients, communities and the environment.
Our growing Sustainability Services team provides sustainability and climate mitigation and adaptation advisory for building and infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical delivery with helping shape our services, develop client relationships and contribute to the team’s future direction.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Sustainable Buildings and Infrastructure Specialist to join our Sustainability advisory team in Turin (preferred) or Milan, where most of the team is based. Other Italian WSP office locations may be considered, subject to an arrangement that supports team collaboration and client presence. In this role, you will develop and deliver sustainability, decarbonization and climate adaptation advice for building and infrastructure projects.
You will work closely with Sustainability Services colleagues, junior team members, clients and business partners on technically challenging and strategic projects. The exact scope of the role can be adapted depending on the successful candidate’s experience, seniority and technical background.
How you will make an impact
Your work will support sustainability advisory for buildings and infrastructure, helping us deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities.
· Sustainability and climate strategies: Develop strategies to improve environmental and social sustainability across the building/infrastructure lifecycle, considering energy, water and materials use, and deliver climate risk assessments and climate change mitigation and adaptation advice.
· Regulatory compliance and funding: Provide specialist advice on sustainability and climate-related policies and regulations, and access to project funding, including Criteri Ambientali Minimi (CAM) reports, Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) assessment and EU Taxonomy compliance reviews.
· Carbon management and technical reporting: Provide technical assistance for carbon management, accounting and decarbonization plans, including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, and prepare clear, effective and innovative sustainability reports and technical contributions to proposals.
· Project delivery and client development: Support project management, contribute to bids and public tenders, identify and pursue new opportunities in sustainability advisory for buildings and infrastructure, and help build trusted relationships with clients and business partners.
· Team development and quality: Support junior colleagues in developing their skills, quality-check their work and help standardise calculation approaches to produce consistent technical outputs.
The team around you
You will be part of our growing Sustainability Services team, supported by WSP’s wider technical and professional network.
The culture: A dynamic, global working environment with collaboration across multidisciplinary projects.
The projects: Technically challenging sustainability and climate advisory projects, including decarbonization plans, lifecycle assessments and climate risk assessments for buildings and infrastructure.
The opportunity: Deepen your expertise through on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching, with opportunities to contribute to global projects and travel.
What you will bring to the role
We focus on the essential qualifications, skills and experience needed for success, while welcoming different technical backgrounds and career paths.
· A degree in Engineering, or another relevant field of study with a sustainability focus.
· At least five years’ relevant sustainability experience applied to buildings, construction or infrastructure, with practical experience across a substantial proportion of the following areas: sustainability advisory and reporting for building and infrastructure projects in Italy and internationally, at competition and delivery stages; CAM reports; DNSH verification and EU Taxonomy compliance reviews; LEED, BREEAM, WELL and Envision project certification; climate mitigation and adaptation strategies; whole life carbon, LCA and Life Cycle Costing (LCC); the EU Level(s) framework; and circular economy.
· Experience in an engineering or technical consultancy environment, with a practical technical mindset, client-facing delivery experience and the ability to contribute to bids or public tenders and support business development.
· Knowledge of Italian, European and international sustainability and climate regulatory frameworks for the built environment and sustainable finance.
· Excellent knowledge of LCA software, such as OneClickLCA or SimaPro.
· Preferred: LEED AP, BREEAM Assessor, WELL AP, ENV SP or CAM expert qualifications.
· Professional proficiency in Italian and strong written and spoken English is a must. Additional languages, such as French or Spanish, are a plus.
· Willingness to undertake short project visits or site inspections in Italy and abroad, currently expected to account for no more than approximately 10% of working time per year.
We are looking for someone with strong technical judgement who wants to keep growing through complex, meaningful projects. You will contribute expertise, share knowledge and help strengthen the quality of our work across multidisciplinary teams.
