Systems Design Engineer – Optical

We are looking for an experienced Optical Network Planning Engineer to drive the design, optimization, and evolution of high-capacity optical networks. Working closely with Product Management, Optical Engineering, Sales, and R&D teams, you will contribute to strategic customer projects and future optical network architectures.

• Design and optimize DWDM and Optical Transport Network solutions for customer opportunities and strategic projects.
• Perform optical link engineering, capacity planning, and network performance analysis.
• Act as a technical expert for optical network planning and architecture.
• Evaluate new technologies and contribute to future network evolution strategies.
• Develop tools and automation to improve planning and design efficiency.
• Support technical discussions with internal and customer-facing teams.

• Master's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Optical Networking, Network Planning, or Transport Network Engineering.
• Strong expertise in DWDM, Optical Transport Networks, Optical Link Budget Engineering, and network optimization.
• Experience with optical simulation and planning tools (e.g., VPI, RSoft, OPNET).
• Knowledge of WDM, OTN, Ethernet, and IP/MPLS technologies.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, SQL, or similar scripting tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Nokia Optical Networks solutions (1830 PSS, 1830 GX, WaveSuite).
• Knowledge of coherent optics, ROADM architectures, and nonlinear optical analysis.
